Application For An Ms In Computer Science At Northeastern University

During the time I was pursuing the undergraduate programme I got fascinated with programming and realized the immense impact it had on human life. Invariably, the most interesting fact about Computer Science for me is its pervasiveness and how it has made things more comfortable and accessible for mankind. My interest in computer science started in my first year of graduation as I was able to write and execute a program that can solve roots for any quadratic equation provided. Subsequently, I tried to improve my programming skills. I feel great and accomplished when I see my code run successfully. It is this feeling that drives me to solve the toughest of problems. It is this immense likeness for programming combined with my desire to dig deeper into the working of various applications and technologies that propels me to apply for an MS in Computer Science at your esteemed University.  

Even before Java was taught in my college I completed both java and advance java during my vacation period in Inetsolve Institute of Technology. Further, I attended relevant workshops conducted in my college such as Web Development organized by Computer Society of India, Android Application Development and IBM Cloud Essentials organized by CSI. All these courses and activities improved my analytical skills which subsequently helped me to identify a problem and to devise solutions efficiently. I polished my problem-solving skills which helped me to identify the optimal solution by thinking logically and practically. My critical thinking skills helped to save time before testing all possible outcomes. 

During the 5th semester, we demonstrated a model of fire extinguisher Bot which works with the help of heat sensors, Arduino and motors. The heat sensors have an IR receiver which is used to detect the fire. Its main purpose is to arrive at the fire accident with the help of an SMS. During the sixth semester, we created an interface called Voice-Based Calci which helps to perform basic multiplications by voice commands. We enabled this with the help of Python, PIP and speech recognition. During the final year, we decided to pursue a project on Data Mining titled ‘Privacy Characterization and Quantification in Data Publishing’. In a team of three, here we dealt with data publishing for medical research and market analysis by preserving the privacy of individuals. Based on novel multi-variable privacy characterization and quantification model we were able to analyze the prior and posterior adversarial belief about attribute values of individuals. We further deduced that privacy should not be measured based on one metric as it leads to privacy misjudgment. Significantly, using metrics like distribution leakage and entropy leakage we could analyze techniques like K-anonymity, L-diversity, and T-closeness which helped in preserving the privacy of the individual. 

Currently, as an Associate Software Engineer at Accenture India Private Ltd, my job role entails designing, deploying and supporting best in class software development processes and tools. Further defining the module-specific requirements for software development projects. I am also responsible to develop coding and design tasks to ensure software meets specified performance and reliability requirements.

I strongly believe that the Master’s programme in Data Analytics at Northeastern University is the best way for me to strive for my aspirations. I can confidently say that this step would channel me towards a career of my interest. The vast and detailed curriculum and the commendable faculty-peer network that the institution offers are very impressive. The diverse laboratories and the excellent infrastructure at the University will assist me in my aspirations to carry on relevant research work and build the essential technical knowledge and skills required to reach my goals. At your University, I seek to gain the necessary knowledge of the current trending advancements in the field of advanced computing. More importantly, I am very keen on working with Professor Sagar Kamarthi and I look forward to learning about the upcoming innovations in Artificial Intelligence from him. It would be an amazing opportunity if I could become a member of his elite team. I am also very excited to learn in-depth the concepts of Data Analysis and pursue research under the guidance of Professor Nasser Fard. It would be a great opportunity to work with him in his ongoing research. 

My short-term goal is to master cutting-edge computing skills with a different array of technologies that help me in developing innovative projects. Apart from that, I envisage to experience a great learning environment and to gain relevant practical knowledge and work as a software developer in a reputed company that has a vision for advanced computing. My ultimate goal is to make a constructive and commendable contribution to the society at large through knowledge acquired in my field of specialization. I would like to make my knowledge work to make a difference in life for the common man and generate employment and wealth in society. I am determined that a dedicated study in Computer Science will enable me to aggregate all my previous knowledge & experience and encourage me in achieving my career goal.
