Comparison of Websites

After reviewing three different websites : LASCAUX, STONEHENGE, and ANCIENT EGYPT, I have made several observations about the pros and cons of each page. By analyzing each, I can provide assertions and information regarding the design and usability for each site. Each have the intended purpose of providing historical information regarding the area under focus. Although, each are unique in their own ways, there are certainly ones that are easier to navigate and learn from due to their organizational design and concepts of art as well. In this paper, I aim to provide the answers to the assignment questions with my own personal views regarding these websites.

In my opinion, the Egyptian website would be the most fun to explore. Once audiences reach the homepage of the site, there are numerous virtual tours of different areas available. Two of the largest tourist areas Alexandria and Cairo are options for these tours. However, not one given area is able to be viewed, rather many. This organization is readily available and takes no further digging to find. Not to mention, the photos provided look beautiful and altogether the site is attractive. Virtual tours are fun because it enables audiences to feel as if they are really touring these places. Compared to the other two websites, this one was brighter and easiest to navigate. The other two were sort of boring, and the LASCAUX just had numerous pictures of cows which decreased the excitement I felt. Not to mention, that even after changing the accessibility to English, there were still numerous sections that did not make the changes to English. Therefore, it is difficult to discover exactly what you are looking for.

In my opinion, the most dramatic of these sites would be the LASCAUX site. Dramatic can be sudden and striking, and I feel this website is just that. It is dramatic initially, because it is posted in another language, therefore, confusion and curiosity enter audience’s minds. Once one changes that accessibility, some words are still not in proper format. The entire website is dramatic in my opinion, this relies on the color schema as well as the photographs utilized in it. A certain mood arises in audiences when they enter this specific website. However, the Egyptian website, to some degree, is dramatic as well. I say this because when one enters the site, they are bombarded with too many options of tours. Numerous areas in Alexandria and Cairo exist, and it is a bit dramatic in my opinion. Although, it is great that the site offers so many options, I feel it is way more than users want/need. The Stonehenge page is the least dramatic of the bunch. I say this because it is very boring and could certainly use some work. Most of the space is white, and you really need to search to find exactly what you are looking for.

The most mysterious of these websites would certainly be the Stonehenge website. I say this, because the content is not found right away, rather viewers must locate it themselves. On the other sites, numerous photos and tours are readily available on the homepage, however, that is not the case for Stonehenge. This adds a sense of mystery and curiosity to the site. Audiences wonder why the owner of the site chose this template in order to deliver the website. Also, not much information regarding this location is available, therefore, if audiences are like me, they searched the internet to find more information. This is why I feel that it is more mysterious compared to the other two sites. However, this mysterious quality is somewhat not good, because a great website should strive to offer all necessary information and an attractive appeal so that it can keep viewers attention.

If I had the choice to live near one of these sites, I would certainly choose the Egyptian one. This may be somewhat bias, since I have already visited these sites numerous times and have fell in love. Not to mention, that Egypt is relatively like my own culture, as well as they speak Arabic too. This website still provides the most attractive and interesting content, that would persuade me as well. Therefore, making it the best choice amongst the others. As the site showcases numerous beautiful areas of the country as well. I feel that most others would also be attracted to Alexandria or Cairo because of this website. We get a wonderful perception of the loveliest areas of Egypt from this website. Not to mention, that the other areas are not photographed nearly as much, so Egypt would be the logical choice amongst all of these places to relocate.

If I were able to show one of these historical sites to my friends, I would go with the Stonehenge one. Although the website is lacking significantly, I feel that this site is mysterious and interesting as well. I conducted more research on these sites and found a lot of interesting facts about it. These massive stones have never been visited by neither myself or any of my friends. However, Egypt has been viewed by most Saudis since it is relatively close. I would want my friends to engage in new and exciting historical areas, not something that has been viewed over and over again. I would recommend the LASCAUX site secondly as well, since that to is something I nor my friends have not seen. This historical site seems significant and interesting alike. I feel that it has something to offer anyone, even those who are not extremely fascinated with caves.

The last choice, as stated above briefly would be Egypt. Although the website is certainly my favorite amongst the others, I feel that many Middle Easterns have already viewed these areas numerous times. Very often, in my family at least, we would go visit the pyramids and eat in the numerous Egyptian restaurants. Don’t get me wrong, Egypt has a lot more to offer than just these two things. However, once you’ve visited at least ten times, the excitement sort of dies down. Although this may not be the case for everyone, I am offering my experience and option of these sites. For new viewers, however, Egypt will more than likely be the first choice of travel amongst these websites offerings.
