Review of "My Husband's Nine Wives": a Positive Take on Polygamy

In “My husband’s nine wives”, Elizabeth Joseph presents the positives aspects of Polygamy. Joseph describes her lifestyle as a wife in a Polygamus relationship. She explains how her daily life works, how the wives share the husband’s time. And how she prefers Polygamy to Monogamy. The article, however presents a one side argument. Joseph’s portrayal lacks the detail and explanation that would make it convincing.

Joseph describes how she needs her husband and arranges to see him. She states “There is the longing for intimately and comfort that only he could provide and when those feelings surface I ask to be with him” (Joseph). She acknowledges her emotional need but does not address the related conflicts. Do the other wives agree? Is the husband always amenable how are conflicts resdied? None of these issues are addressed, her portrayal is examine an d explain the reality of emotional issues involved.

Joseph explained how excited and well behaved her children are to see their father. She states “The kids excited that their father is coming to dinner, are on their best behavior we often invite another wife or one of his children. It’s a special event because it always happens once a week” (Joseph). She says it like it’s a holiday that her and her kids are celebrating, something that should be happening every day. Are the kids okay with only seeing their father once a week? How the does the father feel about this arrangement? Joseph does not give much supporting detail on everyone’s emotions.

Joseph states “If I want to spend Friday evening at his house, I make an appointment. If he’s already “booked”, I either request another night”. But what Joseph does not include in the article, is who is making all the appointments. Joseph’s tone is as if she is okay with this arrangement. Joseph also mentioned that there is always another night if the night she is trying to book is already taken. Do the other wives get mad if things do not go their way? Josephs makes everything seem so perfect but there is no relationship that is perfect.

Joseph lacks the details and explanations that would make her article sound convincing. She does not explain how she got involved into this relationship. If she is happy being the 7th wife. But what she does mentions is that she enjoys her lifestyle because it gives her time for her career and herself. Will Joseph’s kids follow her footsteps? Will her son have more one wife?
