In my ninth grade Astronomy class my teacher explained his views on the moon landing which made me doubt the landing every day since. He is so sure that the moon landing never occurred. Having a teacher that is into all things space doubt the moon landing really put that conspiracy theory into perspective. A lot of my other teachers believed the moon landing was a hoax as well. I found some very interesting videos online about the moon landing. One of the videos is from a daily morning show on YouTube called Good Mythical Morning. The two hosts talked about facts that could make the moon landing faked. The video is called “Did We Really Land on the Moon?” A topic they discussed that seems the most logical is the fact that the U.S just wanted to beat Russia. Landing on the moon was the way win the space race against Russia. They also talked about how there are no stars in many photos, how the flag waves, and in some photos there is the same background. They do point out facts to support that we did land on the moon. The second video is from a lesser known YouTuber, but it still has some fascinating information to it. The video is titled “NASA Moon Landing… Fake or Fact….2015.” This video proved more points on why we did not land on the moon. Some facts are that when the astronauts walked on the moon the video was done in slow motion. Also, the earth in the window was all faked with perspective and manipulation of lights. What was a very interesting fact was that Neil Armstrong has never given an on camera interview. One would think that someone who is that famous would tell his story over and over again to the world, but he did not. These facts are very convincing and can change a person’s mindset.
The first video’s tone was more for comedic purposes. It was not trying to convince you of one way or another. The hosts just wanted to share another side of a story that we all had one certain stance on. They were also trying not to be biased so they would not upset any of their viewers. The second video was definitely trying to persuade you to think that the moon landing was faked. The video gave no other facts to support NASA’s claim that we did land on the moon. It is a good video to support the conspiracy theory.
The government knows that if they were ever caught lying about the moon landing then the American people would never trust or support the government for a long time. They were taking a big risk in hoping that they would succeed to beat Russia. Also, at that time, President Kennedy had to have played a role in it as well. He knew that when he said, “We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard” was really pushing it for NASA. The government must have paid people, like the three astronauts, a lot of money to keep quite. Probably things that are not legal had to take place to make the fake moon landing. The government also probably threatened people with their lives if anything about the moon landing got out. For America’s future I hope that the moon landing was never faked because all hell would break loose.
I told my parents that a lot of my teachers think that the moon landing was faked and they have been teaching us that it was. They were furious and they kept telling me that it was not a hoax. I believe that since it was such a historical moment in their lives they wanted to believe that it was true, no matter what. My dad said, “I watched it on T.V. and so I know it is real.” If an event like the moon landing was faked then that event in history would be so embarrassing to look back on. Many Americans want it to be real because they were alive for it; they want to say, “Yes, I remember when we landed on the moon,” not “I remember when we faked the moon landing.” It is a sensitive subject with many people and can stir up a lot of emotion of nostalgia and excitement. Taking such a great memory away from people is cruel. No matter if the moon landing was faked or not we Americans can say it was a day that was very historic.
