Advertisement in 21 Century

Advertisements are an inseparable part of the world around us. We can find them almost everywhere – in television, on the radio, on the Internet, in newspapers and even in the streets or buildings. I guess we just have to get used to their presence, but are they really so beneficial?

First of all, almost all commercials being shown on TV nowadays use celebrities or role models as a way to increase efficiency. In such advertisements, a famous person usually plays the role of a customer who uses the product and feels very satisfied, or give a brief review of how good the product is. With the influence of celebrities, advertising seems to be more successful because the faithful fans will be likely to follow their superstars to use what they use. Therefore, the products which are bought such people are not really necessary for them.

Secondly, advertisements are definitely a must in the current market economy. Producers just have to advertise their products in order to to sell them. The fact that advertisements propel the economy is an unquestionable advantage.

Thirdly, considering the flood of competitive products, advertisement creators have to be really smart to create an advertisement which would attract clients.

Fourthly, advertisements can be a source of aesthetic and entertainment values. As such, they co-create the modern culture. Making advertisements has become a kind of an art. Even if certain advertisements do not encourage us to purchase advertised products, at least we remember their form, certain catchwords come into use in our everyday conversations. Furthermore, because of their large influence on the society, advertisements can be used to promote some noble ideas, like the protection of the environment.

On the other hand, I think that the flood of different ads is too excessive. They are everywhere and there is definitely too much of them. It gets me mad, when a film is interrupted by a half-an-hour commercial break or when I see advertisements occupying half of a newspaper's pages. Wherever I look, I see advertisements. Moreover, the fact that you can put an advertisement almost everywhere make the people more greedyand more wishing to sell, sell and sell, and then gain, gain and gain. Lastly, I am afraid that advertisements can make people thoughtless. When there are so many of them around, people start to succumb to them without realizing it. Then they can be influenced by any idea, no matter if it is good or bad. That makes the people more prone to be deceived.

In conclusion, I think that, apart from being a nice variation of reality, advertisements can serve us well, as long as we will keep a distance and do not succumb to their influence automatically. I do not have doubts that there are products which really are worth both advertising and buying.
