The Reasons Why I Support Nafta

In my opinion NAFTA is a good thing. I think my favorite part of NAFTA is the fact that it was an agreement between developing and developed countries. The reason I find this to be so interesting is because something like this has never existed before where there are developing and developed countries linking together. I think NAFTA is unique in this way and could potentially even influence other countries to build relationships like this one to help benefit each other and build trust.

One of the main purposes of NAFTA was to free trade within the three signed countries, U.S., Mexico and Canada, which I do believe it did. Not only did it free trade, but it also helped build a stronger and trusting relationship between three neighboring nations.

Another big purpose of NAFTA was to reduce/control illegal immigration. However somehow illegal immigration has actually increased. This for some people may be one of the biggest arguments they have for why NAFTA is not something that should be supported. In my opinion though, I do not believe increased illegal immigration has much to do with NAFTA at all. This could be because of issues just within Mexico such as crime.

Overall I think NAFTA has been very beneficial. All three countries are very different in what they need and how they do things, so I do believe not every country was benefitted the same way from this. I do believe Mexico may have been the country that benefitted the most so far in the long run, but if you look at the 20 year financial impact on this, you will see overall NAFTA has been successful and something I believe people should continue to support.
