Communication is essential to a company’s success whether it is big or small. An ineffective communication present mainly in Ratiopharm Canada’s supply chain. Whenever there was a problem in its supply chain, it was unable to demonstrate the issue to the relevant sources quickly. This delay and gap in communication is a big deal that it significantly affected the overall performance of the company and let the company into a state of crisis. As it took so long for the problem to reach the necessary people, therefore, the issue also considered a relatively vast amount of time to address and fix. The lack of proper communication within the company’s supply chain ultimately led the company to go through many losses and crisis states.

Ratiopharm Canada was able to save itself from the state of crisis by adopting an effective communication strategy by going social. By using collaboration tools like Microsoft’s SharePoint, it allowed the employees within the company to effectively share the problems that they were facing, and other departments in the supply chain could be notified of the issues. Social media would allow the other employees and departments to adapt to those specific changes so that it would not majorly affect them and their operations. For example, if the supply department encountered any problem in supplying the raw materials to the production department, the production department could make specific changes which could help them keep the production running like getting raw materials from another source. This method of communication using social collaboration tools allowed the quick transmission of messages and problems across the supply chain. Using social media for communication would only take a couple of moments or maybe instant whereas the communication technique used previously by the company took months. When any of the employees within the organization faced any problems, they just only needed to post the issues on the message board and the responsible person would be able to address them quickly. As a result of using collaborative tools, Ratiopharm Canada was able to efficiently and effectively carry out its supply chain operations and allowing the company to provide satisfactory services to its clients.

The degree of information richness achieved through social media channels was remarkable. The channels allowed the real-time sending and receiving of data within the company’s supply chain. This real-time sharing of information was beneficial and practical in some ways. For example, the production department could update the number of raw materials that it had used in real-time so that the supply department could send raw materials accordingly making sure that the production department received an adequate amount of resources. The social media channels also enabled employees within the supply chain to have live conversations which allowed them to help each other solve problems much faster. You could share almost any type of information using social media channels like documents, requirements, etc.
