Benefits of LEED to the Owner

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a globally recognized green building certification system, rendering a third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using policies aimed at enhancing performance across all the metrics that matter most, i.e., energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved environmental quality, management of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED gives building owners and expert a concise plan for recognizing and performing practical and fathomable green building design, construction, operation and maintenance solutions. However, here are few benefit of LEED to the owner.

Happier Employees

A LEED-certified structure has large windows, open spaces, and are built with employee or occupant convenience in mind as well as energy savings. Besides offering increased sunlight, LEED buildings also have notably higher air quality and more convenience workspace for employees.

Community Benefits

Constructing a building that is LEED certified is a dramatic and public way of showing a strong commitment to green practices and improving the environment. LEED-certified construction projects also boost the local economy, since one of LEED’s best practices is utilizing local materials and labor wherever possible.

Lower Operating Costs

This is perhaps the most prominent benefit of LEED, and it should be ranks high on the list of any organization considering a new construction. LEED-certified projects usually have a larger initial investment because of the need for stringent standards for construction, materials, and labor, but this initial investment can be recovered on a short-term. Many types of research have been conducted to measure efficiency among LEED buildings, but the biggest of these research was carried out by the New Building Institute in 2008 and found an average decrease in energy usage of about 24%. This sort of savings can easily turn into millions of dollars annually.

Public Image

The green technology is the latest way of promoting your company’s public image, and for a good reason: people want to know that local businesses are committed to good environmental practices, and nothing demonstrates this commitment like LEED -certified project. Moreover, many organizations consider LEED certification purely for the environmental benefits, the enhanced publicity and public image are another reason to consider LEED-certified construction.

The major part of the LEED standard is efficiency. Even the basic LEED Certified house is designed to use up to thirty 30% less energy than other buildings, and a Platinum-rated home will save around 60% when compared to a non-LEED home.

We usually take it for granted. However, scientific research has shown that the levels of indoor air pollutants is usually 2 – 5 times higher than that of the outdoors. The good news is that by ensuring adequate ventilation and using the right materials, you can improve the air quality in your home. LEED houses use ventilation systems, high-efficiency filters, and other controls, so you can be sure that your new house is a healthy home.

If you are building your dream house and you want it to last a lifetime. Or preferably a very long time, so you can pass it on to your children, and grandchildren. Every LEED home has a durability checklist to make sure that the regional home quality construction problems are addressed. Moreover, an independent third-party will then verify the checklist and inspect to make sure everything is up to standard; so you can be assured that your house is built to last.

In Conclusion, LEED saves the owner money and builds credibility for construction companies; moreover, it is also an ethical system for sustainability.
