Chicken consumption has increased due to its versatility as a food, highly acceptability in any culture and religion, lower price, and considered as healthier meat compared to other meats. As per the industrial grow up of poultry industry, disease outbreaks become more common and costlier. In many parts of the world, high outbreaks of disease in poultry industry resulting great losses. In recent years, several diseases like Newcastle disease, variant of Avian Influenza both LPAI and HPAI become endemic and resulting heavy losses to the poultry industry. In these condition company must rely more on Medication and vaccination for control measures which is costlier one and not always success. Biosecurity simply defined as the ‘what do we have to do to keep diseases from entering a poultry farm’. Biosecurity has been defined as ‘informed common sense’. Biosecurity is based on 2 fundamental principles:
Bio-exclusion: Can be defined as “preventing the introduction of a disease agent onto a farm”.
Bio-confinement: Can be defined as “Preventing the spread of a disease agent on a farm ‘’.
There are several ways under which disease agents may gain entry in to a farm (Fig. 2). Disease agents may enter the farm through living bodies or through non-living bodies. It is well known that clear majority of diseases are carried into a farm by contaminated people, equipment, water network, wild birds & animals and vehicles. It can be said that almost 80% of disease enter through this route. Thus, must attention should be applied hereost attention should be focused on this factor. Nowadays airborne transmission hits the mind set of poultry farmer, but it is not significant means of disease transmission if farms are 1-2 km apart. Biosecurity Standards for Commercial Poultry:
• Farm workers should wear neat and clean clothes and boots.
• Entry and exit point for each house should be in farm, foot pan with fresh disinfectant and hand sanitizer should be provided
• Foot wear should be different for farm
• Hand sanitizer should be used prior to house entry and upon exit.
• Farm workers should not entertain or contact with outside farm birds.
• Visitors in farms should be discouraged, essential contract person Like Veterinarian, service provider. Visitor guidelines should be properly mention in Outside and inside the farm.
• Avoid allowing a pet, wild birds, livestock inside the farm.
• Spraying inside the farm should be done thrice a week, in diseased condition once or twice a day depending on the nature of disease.
• Spraying of disinfectant in vehicles, visitors should be strictly done.
• Treated water should be used if there is provision of surface water or during on diseased condition.
• Before entry of chicks farm should be properly disinfected and fumigated if necessary.
• Hatching eggs should be properly disinfected.
• Always try to Keep workrooms clean.
• Sharing an equipment’s when poultry are present should be avoided. Effective way cleaning and disinfection of equipment must take place between farms.
