Season is a homonym that has more than three different meanings. A season could mean the four weather patterns that are experienced in one year; it could also mean a sequence of television programs that are related. Season is also the act of adding herbs and spices on food to make it tastier. However, this research paper will be based on the four divisions of weather experienced throughout the year. The divisions include summer, winter, spring and autumn. The seasons are characterized by specific patterns that vary from season to season. These characteristics include snowing, longer or shorter day light hours, leaf fall and rains. As much as a season has some specific characteristics, there are seasons that may have unique characteristics from what we expect. As a year passes, a lot of change happens to the environment because of various weather patterns experienced during the four seasons. It is important to note that the attributes of various seasons are greatly influenced by a region’s proximity to the sun. This therefore means that different countries can experience different characteristics of weather based on their geological location.

Annual cycle

Spring is often regarded as the first season of the year. During this period, vegetation is established since the weather is favorable for growth. This season experiences warmer conditions, lots of rainfall and melting snow that makes the ground wetter. During this time, animals mate due to plentiful resources that are enough for the food chain. During this season, flooding is experienced since the snow melts and increases the volume of water in water bodies (Sipiera and Sipiera).

This season is followed by summer. During summer, the temperatures rise and become very hot. The rise in temperatures often leads to drought that results to shortage of food both for animals and humans (Sipiera and Sipiera). In places that are near large water masses, there may be increased rainfalls due to excessive evaporation that causes conventional rainfall. During summer, there is a high risk of forest fires in forested areas. It is often difficult to deal with forest fires during summer because of the dry vegetation that fuels the fires.

Summer is followed by autumn where the temperatures drop to cooler levels. This season acts as a window period for preparing for the cold season ahead. During this season, animals store food or travel to warmer areas while others may hibernate (Sipiera and Sipiera). The plants go dormant by shedding their leaves in preparation for winter. It is also at this season that people across the world get bountiful harvests and celebrate annual festivals. A perfect example is the celebration of Thanksgiving Day that is primarily a celebration of the achievements and harvest made that year.

Winter is the last season in the line that brings some chills. It is characterized by ice and snow for countries further from the sun and cold rain for the countries that are closer to the sun. During this time animals like sheep grow wool to keep themselves warm while other animals find ways to keep themselves warm. Many reptiles at this point are hibernating, a stage that will last the whole season (Sipiera and Sipiera).

The seasons are cause by the tilt of the earth towards the sun. At different stages of tilt, various regions experience different seasons depending on their location and nearness to the sun. People are adapted to the climate they are born in. during the various seasons, people engage in different activities that are unique to the specific season like skating and snow skiing during winters.
