Report 2: Guardian “Man accused of threatening police charged”
Report 3: Journal Guardian “Man threatening to kill police denied bail”
As journalists we must determine if our stories follow the guidelines to be able t published. The news value of a story can be determining by celebrity, culture, good and bad news. Two news values used by most media people are Harcup & O’Neil, and Galtung & Ruge these two news values can guide journalists how to write their story.
The intros of the stories basically said what the story is about and sets the angle. The intros are objective and not so much bias, with a balance. Beder said balance is, “presenting the views of representatives of both sides of a controversy without favoring one side”. The stories quoted the magistrate and the defendant producing a balance in the story. As stated by Galtung and Ruge, the stories are important, meaningful, with a little of a threshold. The stories are vivid with an ending that needs no explanation. The stories have a degree of the threshold element because these stories are referring to the video that went viral all around The Bahamas, coinciding with the meaningfulness of the story. As a result of the video going viral, the story was popular and huge enough to be reported. Thus, making the stories publishable for the papers.
However, in the Journal’s article, the journalist begins to show bias in the ending part of the article, and slightly adds commentary along. The Journal’s article provides more details of the defendant life and demeanor. “Dorestin appeared before Magistrate Constantine Delancey that in court with tears in his eyes as he pleaded for mercy. This emotional appeal and drama support for the defendant illustrates a slight bias. Whereas, the tribune article is objective, forthright, balance. It also has cultural importance because as the Royal Bahamas Police Force was allegedly being threatened on social medias, which also makes the stories newsworthy. In both articles there aren’t any unnecessary dates in their articles. The writers do follow the rules to appease to the style book provided for journalist.

Report 5: The Tribune “Dhunna Defends Oban to Split Gb Audience”
In the Meeting reporting by the Tribune News Paper and The Guardian News Paper the Oban Deal Town Hall has also been at the fore front of the papers and social media over the past few months. Both papers use headlines that command attention gain interest from its audience on the Oban Town Hall. In the Tribune the headline reads “Duhnna Defends Oban to Split GB Audience” and the Guardian reads “Mixed Views from residents at Oban Town Meeting”. Both headlines appear to be informative and objective. The Oban Town Hall story can be deemed news worthy as both articles According to Schulz relevance is an important part deeming a story news worthy. Through Schulz’ theory of relevance both papers speak to the extreme concern of the residence in the articles. Through the stories Galtung & Ruge shows reference to elite person theory in the article as well as the Oban town hall articles resonate with the Grand Bahama community and by extension the country to the environmental and economic concerns linked to the oil refinery deal. The sourcing of the articles can be deemed as credible due to both news outlets having journalist sit in the Town Hall covering the event. They also used the quoting of residents and officials from Oban in the articles making the reporting authentic from the use of primary sourcing.
The papers in their stories can be seen to be following Michael Ryan theory stated earlier on objectiveness. Both speak from both sides of the story line, quoting the Oban executive and residents at the town Hall. According to both reporting some residents fear for environmental and health concerns connected to an oil refinery, however also speaks to some residents supporting the deal for the economic development it has create. Report 7: The Guardian “ D’Aguilar: Lighthouse Point won’t be commercially developed”
In the Community reports by the Tribune News Paper and The Guardian the News Paper Lighthouse Point has been seen over the past few months at the fore front of news. The Tribune and the Guardian both use headlines that are explosive and cause its audience to be drawn and intrigued to the the further developments of the Lighthouse point story line. In the Tribune headline one can argue a biased opinion from the headline alone. However, the Guardian Headline seems to give the impression of an objective headline from its headline alone. According to Galtung & Ruge news worthiness can be broken down into a higher arch of news values, however one of the most important notable parts of the Lighthouse Point story in both papers is Gaktung & Ruge’ reference to elite person theory which speaks to the close cultural ties a story line has to the community. This is definitely being seen in both papers the Lighthouse Point news speaks to the development of a 700-acre property by Disney Cruise and the historical/environmental importance of this property to the residents of the Eleuthera community and by extension the country.
Regarding the method of sources used, both papers source and quoted he Minister of Tourism D’Aguliar in the articles as a primary source. This is very effective because the source used is very credible from which they base the reporting as Mr. D’Aguilar sits in the Cabinet of the Bahamas and would play direct part in the initial planning of this projects especially from the Tourism stand point. This being said he again provides for very credible source the reporting, both papers quote him extensively.
