Digital Radio is broadcasting and digital technology that is converted to a signal to rewrite across the radio spectrum and transmitted on an assigned channel. Digital radio signals is the newest of radio technology. There are three main steps to get digital radio to work, first the signal has to be digitalized, next the signal is compressed, finally the signal is transmitted. Signals are digitalized from bits that were put together by taking information and making it digital, then sorting the digital information. There are two ways that a signal can be compressed, the first way is lossless compression. Lossless Compression works by identifying and eliminating statistical redundancy and by doing this bits are reduced (the information is NOT lost). The second way is lossy compression.

Lossy Compression works by removing unnecessary (also known as less important) information, this also reduces bits. When the signal is being transmitted the data is being transferred over a point to point communication channel. A lot of different technology uses digital radio signals, some of these are television, radios, radios, etc. Analog Radio is broadcasting a signal that is transmitted to an assigned channel. Analog and digital radio signals are basically the same thing, but analog is the “old version” while igital is the updated version. For analog waves they have to go through the process of modulation. This process works by magnetism and electricity going in up and down movements. In order to get to the small antenna that is connected to your radio set, the movements have to go through huge antennas. Then by a carrier, it is transmitted. Analog radio signals can be disturbed by storms, lighting, and others natural things because there is a low electrical charge.

Low electrical charge or not, at least part of the information is sent if something were to happen. Although most technologies are switching to digital radio signals, technology that does or used to use analog radio signals are cell phones, television, and other things of this source. Digital and analog radio signals are different and similar in a lot of ways, one main they reason they are different is because digital radio signals is considered the knew way while analog radio signals are considered the old. Digital signals must have finite possible values, as though analog is infinite solutions. The main, important difference is that analog waves are a lot more smooth and steady that digital waves, digital waves are very discrete. Digital and analog signals are similar because they both are made to transfer information to places. Another similarity between the two signals is that they are both transformed into a signal that is electric. Digital radio signals are more reliable than analog radio signals. This is because noise can change the information that analog signals put out, and since the information is changing people don’t support it as much anymore. Digital signals informations doesn’t change because of noise. This is why people feel that digital radio signal is more reliable than analog radio signals.
