Arranged marriage was a big problem back in the days and it is still a problem in some parts of the world. Usually arranged by parents or grandparents, arranged marriages were very common throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. But is arranged marriage a positive tradition? Some mind-blowing brain studies have found that the arranged marriage divorce rate is 6 percent compared to love marriage and its rate which is 55 percent. Arranged marriage is a tradition in some religions. What is an Arranged marriage? According to the New World Encyclopedia, Arranged marriage is a type of marriage that lets your parents or relatives or grandparents pair you with the person you never met before for your entire life. There are many types of marriages. Such as Child marriage, exchange marriage, diplomatic marriage and some more. In child marriage, the parents of the child fix the marriage in the future and promise that they will get married when they older. In exchange marriages, a girl gets traded in different tribes, groups or nations for something that the parents of the girl want in return. Diplomatic marriages happen in politics or royal families. The countries with the most amount of arranged marriages are mostly Asian countries such as India, China, Japan, and Pakistan.
Wild critics of arranged marriages cite the many problems involved in such an arrangement, the benefit includes a reduction in the level of conflict in the home. Around the world, about 55% of the marriages that happen are arranged in some kind of way. This number can be really high in countries like India and Pakistan. These countries have about 4 in 5 people’s marriages arranged in some way. There are some conflicts about parents forcing their underage girls to marry the much older man than she is. However, these relationships have approximately four to five times lower divorce rate than the people who had the choice to choose their life partner. Arranged marriages can have some similarities such as the groom and bride’s education and belief in their religions and discipline. According to the website Girls, not Bride, In Arranges marriages women usually get pregnant within one year of the period to stabilize their family and consequences. Since both families made a deal before marriage, the environment around the home is happier for everyone in the house.
Elderly people in the house think that arranged marriages maintain their background traditions and identity. According to the website Psychology today and Family life, the bride arranges marriages usually, leaving her religion, culture and home behind to adapt to a new house. Once the bride has entered her new home she needs to understand all the routine of that house and she needs to make all new relationships and adapt to a new religion and learn their background because in arranged marriages Groom and Bride usually meet on the day of the wedding to no one knows her/his background. Also, the whole family needs to adjust themselves to a new routine especially the bride. Since she went to the house that she never been to. This structure helps all the family members to stay who they are and what they become when they are together as a family unit.
People usually think of arranged marriage as a relationship that will not work. But according to, website “Self” and its topic about arranged marriages being a good thing that a person has to go through. Because it eliminates stress and confusion to find a life partner. And also there is a big chance to get a good life partner who will not give you divorce. The website “self” also claims that “listening to parents and their advice is not necessarily a bad choice”. Because parents always hope that their child will get a good life partner in an arranged marriage. There is a negative side of arranged marriages which is when the groom and bride get married, Bride’s family has to pay a big amount of money and gold to the groom's family which they think is a tradition but I think that is not fair because the groom's family takes the bride for money. Although at the end Arranged marriages are also known for learning lifelong lessons throughout your life and motivational and important moments that happen to you in arranged marriages.
There is a big argument going on between people who did love marriage and people who did arrange marriages, couples from love marriages claim that they find more love in love marriages instead of arranged marriages. But, the couple from arranged marriages proves that they last longer and they do find love in arranged marriages. For example, my grandparents got arranged married when they both were teenagers and next January they probably will be 60 years into their marriage. Furthermore, my grandparents still celebrate their marriage anniversary and each other’s birthday. My mom’s sister also got an arranged marriage and she lives happily as well. This proves that people do find love and also they find important in their life partner. Personally, I think arranged marriages are not a bad thing in today's world because in most arranged marriages people meet once or twice to your bride or groom before they get married unless their parents force them to get married and they don't want to which, is considered forced marriage.
In conclusion, arranged marriages are something that all depends on the person’s background, traditions, and religion. For example, I am from a family that most likely did arrange marriages, so I have a big chance to get arranged married as well but, let’s say a family from different cultures, backgrounds and they had no arranged marriages most likely will not do arranged marriages. It all depends on the way you look at arranged marriages there is a positive side and negative side. Just like a typical older person would say “thinks positive and positive things will happen”.
