Dr. Seuss’s work required much concentration in order to reveal the hidden meaning. In most of his stories, poems, and books there was an underlying meaning other than the superficial meaning. Dr. Seuss was challenged by the editing company to produce a book having more than two hundred vocabulary words in which kids would comprehend. Dr. Seuss would complete this challenge in “The Cat in the Hat” as he wrote word combined with end rhymes and poetic art. This made children to like and have fun with his stories. In other stories such as Yertle the Turtle and Butter Battle Book, there is heavy use of symbolism. While interesting to the kids, they also symbolize on ruthless German leader and the effects of the Cold War.

As aforementioned, his works were mostly influenced by his personal experiences. Several events which he had witnessed such as the World Wars, Cold War, technology revolution and civil rights movement influenced his work. Seuss works seem to mirror these events as well as the controversy that surrounded them. Growing up Dr. Seuss was faced with the World War 1 while at the time he was starting his higher education the World War 2 broke out. These memorable events are fundamental and evident in the work Yertle the Turtle. The revolution in technology which also saw the destruction of the environment concerned Dr. Seuss which led him to write the book “The Lorax”. In his book, he is cautioning everyone why it is not a wise idea to chop down trees in the wake of the revolution. “The Butter Battle Book” on the other hand elaborates on the Cold War and how it didn’t end up to be a real war. He explains to the children in a clear manner on how the war was manifested with threats with no much action. He interprets his understanding of the political situation and put the ideas on the books thus children can read and understand these political issues. With a clear examination of the issues, Dr. Seuss’s work shows how each story has a moral lesson and represents a person or an issue.

Dr. Seuss was a successful poet and cartoonist who created his fame. Through important themes, symbolism and fun rhyme his books became the best sellers with his personal life experiences being the greatest contributors to what he wrote and how he did it. Dr. Seuss remains to be one of the famous artists who has ever lived as not only did he create fantasy stories of utopia he also used a flowery language which carried away his readers with excitement.
