Advertisement is a part of everyday life. It is seen and heard all around the world at all times. Also it comes to us in many different forms. Advertisements can be seen in magazines and newspapers and on billboards and television. They can be heard on the radio or television. Sometimes ads may be deceitful, but they are not always illegitimate or deceptive. If every person took the time to think about the advertisements that they see or hear he or she would be able to distinguish whether and ad is legitimate or not.
This ad for Nicole nail lacquer is very colorful. It catches the eye. Pictured in the ad are twelve different bottles of nail polish. The picture is taken very close to the bottles so a person can see the details printed on the labels of the nail polish bottles. On these labels it reads, Lacquer Pour Les Ongles (polish for nails) on the first line. Under the first line in bold letters is Nicole, the products name. Next, the label reads Colors with a conscience. The last thing that is said on the label is .5 FL. OZ-15ml. At the top of the ad inn large bold print letters it says, because on prom night, your dress shouldnt get all the attention. Underneath the bottles of nail polish are the brand name, Nicole and the logo, which is colors with a conscience. This is written in purple ink. As I searched through numerous magazines, I came across this ad for nail polish. I stopped to read and said to myself that I would have to try this nail polish. This advertisement obviously is targeting the female consumer, and more specifically, high school females. Prom is a very important thing to most high school girls; therefore, this ad is very suitable for the type of audience that is targeted. The values that are expressed do not get too in depth. That is, the values conveyed are not of too much importance to some people. Some values expressed include looking good, getting attention, and the variety of color which is offered. These are not values of all people, but may be important to the targeted audience. The values of looking good and getting attention are stated clearly in print with the first sentence of the ad, because on prom night your dress shouldnt get all the attention. If this person who is wearing this nail polish is getting attention, obviously she looks good. The variety of color offered is expressed through the picture of the different bottles of nail polish.
I see a hint of wordplay used in the advertisement. It occurs at the bottom of the advertisement when it says, Each bottle of Nicole Nail Lacquer sold helps support: Rock the Vote, Starbright Foundation, American Oceans Campaign, Gildas Club. There are questions that could be asked about this statement. These questions could include how much are these organizations actually helped, or what are the organizations. This statement is also an example of pathos. People who are supporters of these organizations would be inclined to buy this product to support their ideas or beliefs. One cannot trust a company until he or she knows the facts.

As a whole I think this ad is very good. It seems to be well thought out. It does a fine job of capturing the attention of the audience. Female teenagers would be very tempted to purchase this product. This advertisement conveys, to female teenagers, ideas or values that float through their heads everyday. The Nicole nail Lacquer Company is a reliable agency that works to help good, legitimate organizations. George Schaeffer states, Weve chosen the Colors with a Conscience organizations with great care, making sure that at least 80% of each groups revenue goes directly into providing actual programs and services, while no more than 20% is used for administrative expenses.
