Lately, Frank Sinatra has been termed as the entertainer of the 20th century due to his impact in the entertainment industry worldwide. Often Sinatra has been termed as a peerless singer, tireless lover, business mogul, a few moments’ accomplishments as an actor and an associate of infamous as well as powerful people. Sinatra rose to fame in a quick manner, had some subsequent failures and also re-invented himself in the field of screen and live performance. In the year 1954, Sinatra won an Academy Award after which he did a re-establishment of himself in the top recording rank as an artist. His life after the Oscar award was astonishing in the aspect of achievement and scope coupled with scandal and immortal recordings, memorable films, organized crime and politics which are both shocking and astounding. Sinatra is named as an American epic that’s wild and disparate aspects are orchestrated in his achievements outlined in his biography.
Sinatra is characterized by an infinitely charismatic character which is enhanced with his lion stature and a notorious attitude (Kaplan 12). He has a mammoth fame that goes beyond his country into the worldwide entertainment field, thereby remaining an enigma in this day and age. Sinatra had a turbulent lifestyle and additional complex psyche which could not compare with his magnificent voice.
Sinatra had a humble beginning in the small town of Hoboken. Later he fell from grace through unfortunate occurrences of torture, as well as winning various awards in the entertainments. His different phases are established in him as a musician, a man and a tortured genius (Kelley 54). Sinatra is said to be the one who has most documents as an entertainer in the history of America. Much as there is seldom resemblance of dates, names and events, the records bear a truth of how Sinatra lived his life. What mostly embarrassed him were the excess compliments, while he was hurt easily by people who were insensitive to what he termed to be disloyal. He was also excessively annoyed by every inefficient process which greatly inconvenienced him. He rather chose to work on his job and allow anyone who inconvenienced him to do their job. Sinatra spent moments outside his work with his family and friends, as he expressed his cherish for such moments. His love for family and friends made him express his ultimate dislike for death since it would rob him of the opportunity to see his loved ones.
His life was strengthened by his desire to survive by pushing behind his back dark and negative thoughts. He also vehemently discouraged his children from despairing in life’s issues. He blended in equal measure softness and strength which made it possible for him to create strong bonds with his family and friends. His firm and gentle hands kept his growing children like Nancy around him as they went through their extra-curricular activities. His life as a parent introduces us to a responsible parent who would allow his children freedom to interact with the world through wise counsel of guidance and useful instructions which saw his children grow to maturity in their different areas of expertise (Kaplan 23). Sinatra also allowed his children into his activities, especially in oil painting and dates with his loved ones as they enjoyed different activities together. He handled his kids in a rightly intuitive manner also expressed in the way he handled them.
Frank Sinatra co-worked with Sammy Davis Jr. who was a friend to Sinatra for more than 40 years. Davis was among the top recognizable figure as evident in his culture. His image became an epitome for a new age in the in the show business in America. He had an extraordinary lifestyle as a young person. As a young person, he learnt to perform in various dancing and singing platforms in a then segregated America with Will Mastin who was Davis’ father. The context of the American culture during those days suffered the age of Depression where vaudeville itself died. The life of Davis was held in special perspective since he fought his way against the era of racial change.
The American culture was divided between whites and blacks. Davis invested in both races although while entertaining the white people, he was often times not accepted in the venues where he played (Haygood 56). He then joined the U.S Army which was integrated, a chance that made him learn about the tensions which were undercover. Davis was then dragged to become part of civil rights movement where hatred ensued, often erupting into violence. Davis involved himself in varied alliances and friendships with Martin Luther King Jr., Sidney Poitier, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe and Richard Nixon among others. He also had romantic relationship with a lady known as Kim Novak and he later married May Britt who was a blond beauty. This marriage relationship was exposed to death threats, but Davis made his way of uncharted paths which crossed racial lines.
Both whites and blacks reviled and admired him while his life in general was surrounded by insecurities which were raging while he never knew his true identity based on his skin color. It is in this state of affairs that friendship with Frank Sinatra grew, and Davis greatly offered him the support that he needed. He acted as a mentor and a colleague to Sinatra, while helping him traverse across racial segregations to become great into the entertainment industry since they co-worked together. As a result, Sinatra went ahead treating blacks and whites as equals. He offered support to the Americans who were being discriminated against, especially since he was an Italian American.
Personally, I identify with Frank since he was fair to everyone. He has helped me to understand and embrace human beings, no matter where they come from. My circle of friends is made up of all races no matter which corner of the world they hail from. I have been able to appreciate every person’s strengths and help them to work on their weaknesses. Since everyone has their strengths, I draw much lessons from these strengths which has allowed be to have knowledge in different areas of expertise. From Sinatra’s experience I have learnt to work with many people together since I make it an opportunity to learn from them.
Sinatra’s attitude and desire to help the less privileged in the society has helped me to defend the people who fall into unfair circumstances. I find myself willing to go an extra mile for every person who is in need, be it in terms of hospital bills, lack of food, clothing or even shelter. In the political domain, I have been able to influence my peers to vote based on the person’s main agenda and vision, and not based on which family, race or state that they hail from. Such a perspective has made it possible for young people to be enlightened in different decision-making instances where they are able to make sound decisions. There has been astounding similarities between Sinatra and me, since as my influencer; I have drawn different strengths from him.
As a person, he also enabled me to make careful dealings with people from the different walks of life. I have also interacted with people who have become my friends regardless of their color, political affiliation or their religious background. Much as racial discrimination has really subsided since the 20th Century, there have been a few instances where the greater percentages of whites have not really accepted blacks contributing equally to the different sectors in the society. I have made my peers, learn that the positive contributions to the different sectors of the society only benefit the whole race, whether they are colored or whites. Our similarity also comes out strongly in the aspects of paying attention to each person’s need to give into the society. The reason young people end up getting into drugs or becoming thugs, it is a way of expressing themselves. The different strengths young people have could be harnessed into platforms where their voices could be heeded.
In activities where young people can show their talents and skills include football matches, badminton, volleyball games, and tennis among other useful activities. Should such activities be funded, youths and adults can make their lives count through engaging in extra-curricular activities. In such forums, the parents will find it easy to mentor their children to put their energies in productive activities. Parents should show tenderness and love to their children, which will strengthen the bonds between them. As the children grow up, they will learn vital mentorship lessons from their parents, and the family unity will be strengthened. This way, there will be no need for the children to prove their abilities and capabilities outside their home. As a result, they will be cooperative in schools and excel in all grades, making them useful members of the society.
I have also allowed my friends to learn that success can be achieved through determination and diligence, no matter their skin color. Parents have also been enlightened to enable their children to learn from the violence that took place in the early 1940s and 1950s, therefore discouraging them from discriminating against the blacks. I have also allowed young people to learn from achievers like Martin Luther King Jr. and Frank Sinatra, who excelled in the face of discrimination by changing the way whites viewed Blacks. I have therefore invested my time to make youths learn from the life of Sinatra in a great extent, through his diligent lifestyle especially in music (Kaplan 255). The phrasing and the accompanying emotion makes in his songs makes it easy to recognize Sinatra’s voice as he presents every of his songs. The uniqueness of his voice goes a long way in making his music to be known worldwide. There has not been any upcoming singer who has been able to mimic his unique voice. Such an aspect helps young people appreciate his originality in music.
Many youths have learnt from Sinatra about the timbre of the song, the way he structures his throat and how he brings out the experience as he sings, ranging from official governmental meetings to regional fundraising meetings (Kelley 159). Engaging in positive activities has led to a reduction of unemployment, which has made it possible for improvement of living standards among young people through the strengthening of their economic base. Young people have also been able to ensure originality as they produce their music. There has also been a revolution in buying music that has a copyright. In the process, it has been possible to sell and buy original music, hence raising the musicians’ living standards. The government has also benefited from the production of such music since it is possible to get revenue from such kind of music.
It has been possible for young people to also work with comedians, owners of businesses, government officials, and business owners. Special forums have offered great support to different foundations which sponsor different needy organizations. Across the globe, many orphans have benefitted through sponsored schooling and training programs. There has been a transformation of young people’s way of thinking, which has allowed young people to redefine different sectors of the society. The changes have occurred in different sectors such as arts, media, entertainment, commerce, industry, finance, government, military, sports, family, religious studies, health institutions, and family institutions. As a result, improvement in different sectors in the society has improved people’s lifestyles, especially in America and also beyond.
