We all know and use the word, but what exactly does personality mean? According to the American Psychological Association, personality is “individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving.” In other words, it is what sets us apart from the other individuals that surround us. In addition, personality is also something that stays relatively constant throughout our lives.
Most of us have taken a random personality test at least once. Many have also taken the more scientific approaches to measuring personality such as The Big Five or the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator tests. The first test many kids are exposed to in school is the Hartman Personality Profile, which places you in either the Red, Blue, White or Yellow personality colors. Regardless of the type of test you have taken, the results vary based on what they’re designed to focus on.
So, besides the curiosity factor, why take a personality test? The best personality tests show us something more about ourselves and hopefully can help us determine our own weaknesses and strengths more clearly.
