The arts and architecture

The arts and architectural works dates back in human history. They are of historical and cultural significance in human lives because they represent the people’s way of life including tradition, originality, culture and even their civilization. The arts and architecture reflects on the skills of our forefathers and how people of ancient times used to design their structures. There exist different backgrounds in the society and each specific group has its own unique skills that can be used to identify their culture. The existing portraits or buildings are used to identify the skills different people possessed in the past. In this paper we are going to compare and contrast the art and architecture of two churches.

The Presbyterian memorial church located in St. Augustine was constructed by Henry Flagler to honor his eldest daughter who died while giving birth. The church was built by McDonald and McGuire workers form their construction firm and the architect was Thomas and John Carrere. The church is considered one of the historic churches located at Valencia 36 Street in Florida, America. In the exterior view the church is one story building with a high lantern and dome. The building measure 170´-10´´ by approximately 111´ 1´´ and the shape is Latin cross with a circular tomb of the Flagela’s family projecting from narthex’s west side (Agustine). The foundation of the building is made of mass concrete while the walls of the building are made of mass concrete and decorated brick.

Description of the interior view of the church

The floor is made using imported Siena tile placed in a pattern resembling Venetian separated by twelve violet plaques of broccia marble reminiscent of the twelve disciples. The Baptismal Font is made of a single solid portion of Siena marble which is an exceptionally beautiful Italian carving. A curved eagle lectern is placed over the font. It’s from the lectern where the church services are conducted. An elegantly curved screen for the choir rests above the rostrum. The interior of the building is well furnished with beautifully curved woodwork of mahogany found in Santo Domingo. It is this mahogany that was used to do the paneling, make doors and the pews which were imported specifically for use in the church construction. The windows were well designed and are made of well stained glasses that are distinctive from each other resembling the Apostle Creed’s articles. The organ of Roosevelt was constructed again and a solo organ included during the new construction. At the Southern gallery there are Estey installations covering the organs of the echo and chimes. They are all played from the manual console in the loft of the choir.
