Immunization is a controversial issue because it involves a dispute between sides which hold opposing views. Those who support immunization believe that everyone should be vaccinated. Some proponents claim that vaccinating “Protects the herd”, protect the herd is saying if someone is allergic or can’t get a certain vaccination they are relying on everyone else to get one. Furthermore, advocates of immunization think that inoculations save lives. For example, according to Should any vaccines be required for children? (Pro reason #3, Quote see G.O- On the other hand, those who oppose immunizations think that all vaccines carry a risk of being life threatening, according to the CDC . They also argue that vaccines carry harmful ingredients. Lastly, opponents believe vaccines lead to autism. In closing, the article People should not be allowed not be allowed to refuse vaccination states that “Some physicians believe thimerosal, an organic mercury compound found in trace amounts in one flu vaccine for children and other vaccines for adults, is linked to autism.” ( Vaccines Con#2).

According to vaccines overview, the definition of vaccines is “to teach your body how to defend themselves from germs, such as viruses or bacteria¨ (VaccinesOverview.NIH.GOV) March 2016, Some organizations that support immunization are Control Center for Disease, Food and Drug Administration, American Medical Association, Unicef, and Public Health Agency Information Center and some groups that oppose inoculation include Anti Vaccination Group. Some laws or court cases about Immunization are vaccinations are required to go to public school, but offer religious exempts. Meaning that you must get your inoculation to go to a public school but in some cases of religion you may not have to. The article “Vaccines” states Jacobson V Massachusetts. The Jacobson V Massachusetts is the case if we should enforce laws for vaccination. ( first became controversial during the mid 20th century because vaccination became a popular thing to do but some people began to think things were wrong with vaccination. One of the major court cases that made it controversial was Jacobson V. Massachusetts.

Supporters of inoculation believe that when you chose not to vaccinate your child you could be potentially killing them, other children, and or other people. One reason people support vaccination is because when you choose not to vaccinate your child your putting everyone else at risk. According to “ Vaccines protect future generations- vaccinated mothers protect their children from potentially life threatening causes at birth”. For example there has been a 15% rapid increase of outbreaks in preventable diseases; such as pertussis, measles, and the mumps in the US.

There are several reasons why people support vaccines. One of them is that if someone is allergic to a certain vaccination they rely on everyone else being vaccinated. This all goes back to one term called vaccines protect the herd. Vaccines protect the herd means that when someone can’t get a certain vaccination they rely on everyone else to get a vaccination.”vaccines eradicated smallpox and have nearly eradicated other diseases such as polio. Children are no longer vaccinated against polio because the disease does no longer exist due to vaccines against it .For example a 2 year old was allergic to whooping cough vaccine but he didn’t need to get the vaccination because of “Protect the herd”.

On the other hand opponents of vaccination believe that vaccines can lead to autism, people think autism is related to mmr vaccines. Vaccines( MMR) and autism don’t have a common relation and the claims are just claims because, over 200 studies in 2004 and over 1,000 studies in 2011, a report shows strong evidence did not show relation between vaccines and autism. For example, studies show that vaccines don’t show until 2 years of age and that’s around the same time you need to get vaccines.

Despite these reasons, opponents of inoculation feel that vaccines carry harmful ingredients people can think of this because vaccines carry unnatural ingredients. ”Vaccines can contain ingredients some people consider immoral or otherwise objectionable¨. For example chop says “ it’s true that natural infection almost always causes better immunity than vaccines¨ A disease for immunity only takes a single try where immunity from vaccines occur after many doses.

Based on my research vaccines are perfectly safe because ¨ vaccines protect future generations- vaccinated mothers protect their children from potentially viruses at birth. In the next couple of years I predict that vaccine controversy will not be as big of a debate because scientist are trying to figure out how to incorporate safer ingredients in vaccines and find the cause to autism. Since those are the highlights of the con side of vaccines, once those are fixed the con side will begin to shrink.
