I took all five surveys that were distributed to us in class. Surprisingly, the results of each survey were parallel with each other. For the 16 Personalities test, I was assigned the Defender personality type. This personality type comes from the Sentinel role. People in this group seek order and stability, appreciate strict rules, are self-motivated, etc. (Roles: Sentinels). My personality type, the Defender, believes in returning kindness with excess kindness. We are supportive, shy away from the spotlight, seek intimate level relationships, and are always willing to care for others (ISFJ Personality (“The Defender”)). The name for this personality group makes sense because when I think of a Defender, I think of someone who is a caretaker and has all of these traits. Our individual traits show that we are always observing people, we are somewhat introverted, and we can be somewhat turbulent because how much emotionally invest ourselves (Roles: Sentinels). My favorite part of this personality test was finding out that Beyoncé is also known to be a Defender (ISFJ Personality (“The Defender”)).

For the Emotional Intelligence survey, I had the highest score in the Social Emotional Awareness category in both my self-assessment and my friend’s assessment of me (appendix A). I believe that this survey was very accurate because I am always concerned about others feelings, and I am always trying to make sure everyone is content. In groups, I always try to make sure everyone is on the same page and that we are in full agreement with our group assignment. I also am able to understand people’s feelings and many of my friends come to me to talk through difficult situations. This is something I am proud of, and I believe this caretaker trait is why the Defender personality type and my results from the Emotional Self Awareness survey are in parallel. For the Big Five Inventory (BFI) and the Five-Factor Form, I scored the highest for the Conscientiousness category in both surveys (appendix B). Once again, this survey reflected the results of the other two surveys. People in this category tend to be very orderly, achievement oriented, self-disciplined, and dutiful. I believe that this category truly reflects me because I fall perfectly into this category. I am known to be very organized and reliable. I have always been a high-achiever whether it be in academics or my extracurricular activities as well.

My strengths for the Defender personality type include being: supportive, patient, reliable, imaginative, observant, loyal, hard-working, and practical (ISFJ Strengths and Weaknesses). I believe that my strongest strengths out of those are my hard-working and supportive attitudes. I am not the most patient person in the world, but I am very understanding, which makes me patient. I believe my strengths are what cause me to be high-achieving and supportive. My weaknesses include: shyness, repressive of feelings, overloading themselves, reluctant to change, and being too altruistic. I believe my biggest weakness is overloading myself because I am too nice to people. This weakness stems from my strength of being supportive. I tend to take on other’s issues, and I allow them to become a personal burden. I always want the best for my friends, and this means I tend to sacrifice my happiness in order to accommodate them. I truly care for my friends, but sometimes I care too much and get too involved. I often find myself “doing the most” as my friends say, which causes me to feel overloaded. Another big weakness is that I am very reluctant to change. I am a strong believer that you must be in a routine in order to achieve efficiency. Deviations from plans bug me, but I do not tend to express that because I do not want to hurt someone’s feelings.

My self-development plan first began when I took these surveys. From these surveys, I was able to define any common negatives in my personality traits. I believe my biggest negative is my over-investment in my relationships. I have always been someone who gets very attached to people and because of this my feelings are easily hurt. Moving forward, I will be trying to limit my involvement in my relationships. This does not necessarily mean that I will become more distant, but it means that I will make a better effort to match my emotional expression to that of the other person. My feelings tend to get hurt the most when I feel like I am not on the same level of involvement in my relationships with friends or significant others. I believe by taking a small step back from this will help me reflect on the relationship better, and it will help me not get upset as easily. I will also be bettering myself about working around change. I will do this by making a bigger effort to accept changes in plans and routines. These changes will be difficult for me to overcome, but in the end, I believe they will be very beneficial for my personal development and health. I believe these surveys were very beneficial because I was able to discover a lot about myself and why I do things a certain way.

What can be improved
"The Analysis of My Personality Tests" provides valuable insights into the author's self-reflection and personal growth. However, the essay could benefit from more thorough proofreading to eliminate occasional grammar errors such as "The Big Five Personality model has been divided into five characteristics (agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, openness, and extroversion)" where the plural noun "characteristics" doesn't agree with the singular verb "has". Additionally, some sentences could be more concise and precise, such as "I feel like I am aware of myself" which could be improved to "I am self-aware." The essay also lacks a strong introduction that could better engage the reader and provide context. One possible suggestion would be to add a brief overview of the importance of personality tests and how they can help individuals understand themselves better. Another weakness is the limited use of outside sources to support the author's claims. Incorporating expert opinions or research findings could provide additional credibility to the essay. Overall, while the essay is well-organized and coherent, it could be enhanced by more careful editing and additional research.
