A vegan diet is the most beneficial to mankind as it is one of the healthiest diets in the world, it is the world’s most environmentally friendly diet and it could potentially end world hunger, and I feel that the whole world should go vegan. The definition of being a vegan is to abstain from animal products completely (“Veganism”). Although it might seem awful and unusual to many, to have a diet where meat-based products cannot be consumed, vegan diets are becoming more and more popular due to the benefits one can achieve from it.
The problem is though, people who have vegan diets constantly receive backlash that by not eating meat at all, they can have nutrient deficiency, and this is the most popular argument against vegan diets. There are certain nutrients that are found in larger quantities in meat and dairy, or example, Heme-iron can only be found in red meat, and is much better absorbed than non-heme iron found in plants. It also helps with the absorption of non-heme iron, and if we have a deficiency in this nutrient, we would be more prone to anemia. (“7 nutrients that you get from plant foods”, Authority Nutrition) Also, another important nutrient that vegan diets lack is Docosahexaenoic acid, better known as DHA. “DHA is an essential omega-3 fatty acid that is important for normal brain development and function. It is mainly found in fatty fish and fish oil, and deficiency in DHA can have adverse effects on mental health and brain function, especially in children” (“7 nutrients that you get from plant foods”, Authority Nutrition). However, this does not mean that plant-based sources have none of these nutrients, just that it contains a smaller amount of them, and to counter nutrient deficiency, we just have to consume more plant-based sources to ensure our nutritional needs.
Having a vegan is beneficial to mankind as it is much more healthier compared to a regular diet. Firstly, “our diet would be lower in saturated fat. The lack of meat or dairy would make it easier to consume less saturated fat, helping us to lose weight, reducing ‘bad cholesterol and lowering our blood pressure, protecting us from heart diseases” (“The pros and cons of being vegan”, Will Hawkins). Secondly, we would have a healthier and wider range of nutrients. “By eating a plant-based diet, we would naturally be having a wider variety of fruit and vegetable, which are rich in antioxidants that help protect our body against diseases. For example, vitamin B1, which enables our body to use carbohydrates as energy, can be found in fresh fruit, (“What is thiamin, or vitamin B1? By having a non-vegan diet, we would not be able to get as much of these nutrients, and our bodies would not be as healthy and strong as compared to when we have a vegan diet. Hence, by having a vegan diet, we would have a much healthier lifestyle. But, not only does being a vegan have health benefits, there are environmental benefits as well!
Having a vegan diet also helps the environment, and is also the most environmental friendly diet. This might sound odd or strange or even shocking to many, as you might not believe it but our favourite foods, such as steak, burgers or roasted chicken are the contributors to our planet’s environmental crisis. In this world, livestock, including cattle, are a significant source of greenhouse gases. If we were to consider just a hamburger, for four patties, it would require 25 kilograms of animal feed, 25 square meters of land and 220 liters of water (“What Would Happen If All Americans Went Vegan”, Katie Langin). “Emissions from the production of beef and lamb are 250 times higher than those of legumes, per gram of protein. Pork and poultry are 40 times higher than legumes, and a large amount of methane and nitrous oxide, gases that are more than 20 times and 250 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas are generated from livestock-raising activities Also, 80% of Amazon deforestation is due to cattle-raising.” (“Go Vegan, Save The Planet”

Wang) As such, if we were to go vegan, there would be a reduction of livestock activities, no need for production of meat products such as beef, lamb, pork and more, hence significantly reducing the greenhouse gas emissions, potentially ending global warming! Also, “according to a study from Nature, a British multidisciplinary science journal, shows that even by having a Mediterranean diet, one that already has lower amount of animal products, or a Pescetarian diet, a vegetarian diet that involves fish, would still result in increased emissions of greenhouse gases. That same study also showed by having a vegan diet, by removing dairy and egg products, would reduce greenhouse emissions the most, proving that a vegan diet is the most environmental diet in the world.” (“Go Vegan, Save The Planet”, George C. Wang). But that isn’t all at all, as going vegan could potentially end one
of the world’s largest issue that it faces.
Having a vegan diet could potentially end world hunger. As mentioned in the paragraph above, eating meat would result in higher greenhouse gas emissions due to the production of of the meat products.” However, that isn’t the only problem, as currently, almost 800 million people suffer from chronic undernourishment and insecure food supplies, 35% of grains worldwide are fed to livestock” (“Go Vegan, Save The Planet”, George C. Wang). “According to a paper published in Science, they analyzed the land-use area needed for each crop or livestock from over 38000 farms, as well as the production of greenhouse-gas emissions, nutrient build-up, land acidification, and freshwater use. However, if the whole world went vegan, it would produce 49 per cent less food-based greenhouse gas emissions, 50 per cent less acidification on land, 49 per cent less eutrophication, and would use 19 per cent less water to meet our food-energy demands” (“Would You Go Vegan To Save The Planet? It Might Be Our Last Option”, Nick Kilvert). Hence, by going vegan, we would no longer need land and space for raising cattle and we could devote all those resources to raising crops , resulting in a much higher yield of food, feeding even more families that are suffering from poverty and hunger, potentially ending world hunger in general.
In conclusion, having a vegan-based diet is truly beneficial to mankind despite all the criticism it receives. Who knows, if all humans were to have a vegan diet, we would be able to solve so many issues, solving world hunger, which would eventually lead to saving all the people who suffer from poverty! It could even potentially lead to world peace. If you are still not convinced and still feel that we should all just have a non-vegan diet, then let me ask you, if I gave you a basket of apples and a knife, I’m sure you would use the knife to cut the apples and eat them, but if I gave you for example, a chicken, and a knife, would you use the knife to cut the chicken and eat it? If no, then why are you still eating chicken or any other meat products if you can’t bear to take the animal’s life? However, this is ultimately up to one’s personal opinion and it is up to them to choose what diet they would prefer. To me, having a vegan diet allows for a more nutritious lifestyle, a better environment and maybe even end world hunger, and hence I feel that the whole world should go vegan.
