Every day, sex offenders are released into the world after dealing with their requested time in punishment, and when they are, there are publications of their sexual offences, letting the people around them know of what deed they, themselves, have done. Now, is it fair? To an extended point, yes, it is fair; depending on the offender, it would be safe to spread public of the sex offender’s existence, just in case any re-offenses happen. For the safety of the people around the offenders, it is at most fair to make publications of all sex offenders. It is not a violation, nor an invasion, of the sex offenders’ privacy; therefore, it is fair and logical for publications of sex offenders to be made.

Although people may say that it is “‘horribly unfair’ to identify where” the sex offenders live, such actions are taken for the aspect of safety to the community. As Schneider stated in PROTECT YOURSELF, FAMILY FROM SEX OFFENDER, “Sex offenders should not be harassed after they’ve served their sentences, but they need to be monitored because they often strike again.” It is not that they are doing it as a punishment for the sex offenders, it is done so as a cautionary measure for the people around the recently released offender; one can’t be too safe with that. Instead of sympathizing for the lives of these sex offenders, people should actually take perspective of the victims. As stated, “One woman explained how she’d been brutally beaten, knifed, and raped. She said she now sleeps with a pistol under her pillow.” It is morally unfair for these victims to be mentally afraid for life. It only takes a bit for these sex offenders to gain trust from their community and abuse their rights once again; therefore, taking caution is the best method possible to prevent sex crimes from ever happening again.

First of everything, releasing information of the sex offender to the public provides an upper hand for those around the offender. Providing with information, such as the rate of crime and personal information, keeps the public community alert at the fact that someone cautionary is near. It gives the public an advantage and a warning if they want to approach the sex offender. Although prejudice may be at cost for this information being released, it would be positively recommended to help prevent sexual crimes from being done again.

An effective argument against the action of releasing information is that it violates the privacy rights of the sex offenders and it is deemed as “unfair”. However so, the argument fails to realize the effectiveness of the punishment. Putting such works to actions, the public is informed of much information. In the end, whether they choose to approach the offender or not, it is their choice. Just the fact that the public has the option of being informed is advantageous enough for the safety of everyone. The sex offenders may or may not do the deed again, but for the sake of everyone, releasing information to the public is the most logical thing done.

It is indeed quite invading of the government to be releasing one’s information; however, for the cautionary term of the act of crime being done again, it is better to do so rather than having someone hurt. Publishing information of all sex offenders in the media is fair worthy and is definitely agreeable. The safety of a person lies not only in the hands of many police officers, but also in the hands of themselves; people should be able to make logical decisions about people and be cautioned of those who are deemed to be dangerous. Providing information to the public would help the people have an extra hand in making safer decisions.
