Martial Law: Burden Or Boon

Injustice, rebellion and terrorism are very common. This activities could harm every individual and lose the precious gift of our life. Maute group are one of the rebellion trying to occupy Marawi because of this terrorist that damage the Marawi and lives of individual, our president declare a martial law.

Terrorism is the unlawful act of violence which is used by the terrorists to make people fear. Terrorism has become a common social issue. It is used to threaten common public and government. Terrorism is used by various social organizations, politicians and business industries to achieve their goals in very easy way. Terrorism has become a big national and international problem all over the world. It is a global issue which has affected almost all the nations throughout the world directly or indirectly. Opposing terrorism has been tried by many countries however; terrorists are still getting support by someone. Terrorists have many objectives such as spreading threat of violence in the society, fulfilling political purposes, etc. They make civilians of the country their primary target.

Martial Law is the exercise of government and control by military authorities over the civilian population of a designated territory. It was first implemented in the Philippines last September 21, 1972 under President Ferdenand E. Marcos to fore saw an escalation of violence and disorder in the country and wanted to know the extent of his power as commander-in-chief. This time, our present president Mr. Rodrigo Roa Duterte declares matial law last May 23, 2017 in Mindanao due to the terrorism in Marawi. As a Mindanaon we are affected to this declaration. The curfews was strictly implemented and authorities secures the safety of the people in Mindanao.

Therefore, this qualitative study is essential to the people of Mindanao who experiences the effect of this law and to other people to know if it is a burden or not. It aims to know more into the feelings and perceptions of the people of Mindanao. Hence the study will describe if the implementation of Martial Law in Mindanao is burden or boon.
