Millennial Generation's Habits as Reported in the Journal of Financial Services Professions

This article was produced by the Journal of Financial Service Professions and aims to explain tendencies of millennial generations. This is done by explaining difficulties faced by this generation such as the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the effects of globalism. This generation is also called the internet generation because this is when the internet boomed. These millennials have many deeming qualities that businesses admire such as being tech savvy. However, generations such as baby boomers, generation X, and generation Y sometimes have difficulties relating or even understanding millennials (DeVaney,2015).

Millennials have many redeeming qualities who are given the title “digital natives” because they never experienced a time offline. However, “digital immigrants” have. Most millennials began using computers and other technologies in first and second grades of school. They utilized word like programs that showed spelling and grammar errors. This is a blessing and curse in one, because most millennials are dependent on such technologies and disabled their ability to learn real spelling and grammar. Although this generation was reluctant to learn how to use computing systems early on, they have also overcome several challenges in these modern ages. One of which is a horrible job market (DeVaney,2015).

Many students are going to college with high hopes of landing a job in their specifications. However, this is not always the reality. Even with these admirable degrees, many students are ending up jobless with a high price tag from college. These debts are astronomical and somewhat impossible to be paid off. These challenges limit millennials, despite their high educations and ability to prosper with technologies (DeVaney,2015).

One suggestion made by Saratovsky and Feldmann, which was cited by the author, noted that organizations should try to engage millennials. One way to integrate this generation is by offering leadership type roles that force active roles in these generations. Allow them to be a part of something bigger in which they must resume responsibilities. This will greatly benefit this generation. Overall, these generations deserve to be better understood, and I was able to do so by analyzing this article (DeVaney,2015).
