Moral manuals are a set of morals that guide and inform the way of lives of people more so those who are religiously ascribed to the religion of Christianity. The moral manuals inform reasoning, behavior, actions, and virtues by enabling people to relate to various reasons and outcomes of their actions. Mostly, deductive reasoning is an anchor that informs moral manuals reasoning, in essence; before a person does anything, they have to reason deductively until they decide whether it is morally acceptable to undertake the said action(Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church 27). Moral manuals, therefore, can be summarized as a set of Christian ethics.

Scripture in moral theology

In moral theology, scriptures are manuals that act as a point of reference in an instance decision making is needed. In moral theology, a set of Christian morals and ethics has their point of references in the scriptures. The role of scriptures is not to guide the morals only but also the actions, the course of actions and the intentionality. Natural laws are a set of moral principles that are unchanging, and they are regarded as the basis under which human conduct is based. Natural law is considered to inform the moral reasoning of human beings more so on how they are expected to act. They are found natural because they are observed by everyone everywhere. Human flourishing can be explained as an effort to achieve self-actualization that individuals in a society pursue while within the standards and confines of the larger society. It is a right of every individual to pursue self-development, and they have to do so within the context of a larger community.


Under Roman Catholic, the magisterium is an authority that the church has through its ministers to set up teachings that according to them are authentic. Magisterium allows catholic ministers more so those of the bishops and popes to identify authentic teachings that ought to be ascribed to by the church followers(Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church 92).

Discernment according to biblical interpretation goes beyond deciding right or wrong. It encompasses the actions of an individual in an instance where the options of right and wrong are considered to be in intertwined.

B. according to traditional teachings of the church, sin and conscience are central to decision making and morality. The teachings note that it is a sin to act against the conscience. Acting in line with the conscience in most cases is about doing the right thing through discernment or with an ability to go beyond right or wrong and think of far-reaching repercussions (Porter 09). The early church delved into the issue of sin and conscience by teaching followers of Christian faith to follow certain teachings that inform sin and conscience. However, the present church teachings allow Christians to exercise self-reasoning on the matter, but they should have the teachings as examples.

C. The framing of moral questions with enough adequacies can be described as being able to have an understanding of what is expected of a person before they decide on a certain action. To make a decision has to look at various possible outcomes/consequences and then from then they can arrive at a decision whether they will go ahead and undertake a certain action or not (Francis 18). Examples include; in a situation where a person witnesses theft, being the only one who witnessed theft it is incumbent upon them to report the thief. In such a case, before they make any decision they are always in a dilemma to decide whether to report or not, will he be regarded as an accomplice, what are the riks involved, among other questions. All the questions inform that is referred to as framing of moral questions.
