My involvement in my neighborhood as a youth leader has contributed to my professional networking building skills. As a youth leader, I have taken on the responsibility of assisting young high school senior graduates to get internships from different institutions before embarking on their college journey. Through different events hosted by the youth members in our community for charity causes, I always take the initiative to invite district authority leaders and some public servant leaders to be part of these events. These professional relationships I build through inviting them for such kind of events has made it easier for me to introduce them to the young youth for professional guidance and opportunities. Some end up giving them internships or recommending them for other opportunities.
Secondly, as a project staff who collaborates with different development partners, government institutions and business people on a day-to-day basis, I am required to engage with different stakeholders through networking. For example, given my experience in mobilizing resources for different projects, I worked with the African Development Bank team from Cote D’ivoire to analyze the feasibility of funding a new project in Rwanda on the Meat Value Chain Sector. We had to meet with different government stakeholders and trade cooperatives to gather information that would be useful in designing the project. Apparently, working with the African Development Bank team during their 10 days stay in Rwanda, I benefited a lot through gaining experience on how donors work on different region projects and how they conduct their analysis and evaluation on a country before disbursing funds. It was a great deal for me as a young professional to work with the team. Consequently, knowledge skills were transferred and hence leading to a strong working professional relationship with the donor.
Equally important, in my professional I have also had an occasion to attend different trainings and workshops in different countries namely; Singapore, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Ghana. The objectives of these trainings and workshops were to gain more skills in trade negotiations, trade facilitation, and investment and share our country experiences with each other. During these learning experiences, I met people from all occupations and exchanged different experiences on countries social, economic and political agenda. Due to the professional discussions exchanged and acquaintances made, some people have used that relationship to visit Rwanda and learn more about the country.
In the long run, I intend to use the skills and experiences acquired to build strong professional relationships with the Chevening community, through sharing different experiences and skills that can contribute to the genesis of something new that can strongly lead to the development of our community.
