“My parents said that sitting at home playing video games all day won’t bring you anywhere in life” (Pewdiepie, 2017). Video games are a pervasive part of almost all the youths and because of which become a part of the society in many ways. For many decades video games have been always viewed as destructive perspective, which would ruin a person’s life. Some people argue that video games have been considered as the main contributor too many acts of violence or aggression. Due to the major upcoming of video games in the recent century has forced researchers to understand the influence of gaming on the people. All of the experiments carried out by the researchers has linked to increasing of brain activity such as, attentiveness, fast decision making, conversational and social skills, memory etc.

Although games may benefit the youth, there is also a big downside towards it and rather a less than ideal problem-solving approach to life challenges and the addiction of gaming. People spend way too much time playing video games and can become addicted, putting games first in front of work or school and spending time with friends and family. People also can wreck health. They can lead to anxiety, depression, increase in aggression and violence, and mess with a person’s social life. Not only that, but they worsen the physical health and can cause weight gain, neck and muscle problems, and strain in parts of the body. On the other hand, gaming cannot always be considered an addition if played within the limits.

Video games not only just entertain but, when people play a video game, he or she is not only gaping at the computer passively but, the behaviors and actions on the screen offer a lot of mental stimuli, especially ones involving fast responses and action, as games help them learn and engage in stimulating activities. An analysis from a University (University of Toronto, 2014) finds that people who play action games, such as Call of Duty or Assassin’s Creed, are capable to learn new sensorimotor task, i.e., improve hand-eye coordination and if this can be incorporated in training surgeons, or helping students understand specific concepts and show that there is a profound impact of video games on sensory and motor skills.

Video games also involve clear rules. This means that the player has to think cautiously before making any move to ensure that they stay within the required rules of that game. The player has to make fast decisions constantly that will determine whether or not he or she will advance to the next level. Whether using flexibility to change a person’s approach while bashing down towers in Angry Birds or having too predictable shot patterns in Wii Tennis, a player needs to adaptively make decisions and solve the problem as game conditions change. The presence of variation, modification, and creativity are core components. Video games make the gamers learn from their mistakes, so if the mistakes continue, it is unlikely to progress in the game. The flexibility helps the players to adapt to new gaming condition and be flexible in their thinking, which makes the gamers to practice thinking and creative solving problem.

Modern video games are designed in such a manner that the difficulty level is and can be increased constantly and due to which gamers are contested to decipher major difficult problems. These modern games have individual task to improve at and once they accomplish those tasks, they advance and because of the specific task set, young people work through the difficulties to achieve those tasks and lets them solve problem on their own while working on their goals. This can help in boosting their self-esteem as well as youngsters learn the value of persistence and when video games offer response, they can even tap the potential skills which they might have not expected to possess. When people play games, they understand that intelligence increases with time as well as with effort, rather than being fixed. According to a report made by Matthew Ventura (2013), hypnotized non-gamers are more likely to give up earlier than the hypnotized gamers because they are more persistence. Games encourage people to not give up even though the challenges rise and will ultimately succeed in obtaining goals if constantly using various strategies.

Lastly, In the recent years, video games have become deeply social activity more than ever. Video games has evolved, rather than being a single player, there are various modes in which a player can play with friends. More than 75 percent of gamers play online with their friends, whether a normal game or in competition. Many upcoming games such as Apex Legends, Fortnite etc. are used by millions of users with online social community as well as with online interactions. This social activity is one of the main parts of gaming where gamers interacts by talking about the game and discussing strategies and can rapidly learn social and conversational skills that will help the person to socialize in the real world. Even though they are violent games, nevertheless by cooperating with the members of team they provide an opportunity to learn social skill and the feeling of hostility reduces by playing with friends rather than playing alone. Even by playing cooperatively would help the children to understand how to work as a team.

To conclude, video games have been associated with negativities in a person’s life ever since they were introduced. Nevertheless, they are considered to be valuable as they help people to relax their mind and escape from their personal issues if the video games are played within the limits and with mindfulness. Video games are the modern way of entertainment and interaction as they help develop social skill. The style and level of these video games are more attractive and likable than the old-fashioned board games and others. Although, unbalanced amount of time that is played can effect negatively, balanced playtime can be fun and helpful in terms of health and education.
