For 4 years in JROTC, I developed self-confidence and build leadership. The service-learning impact my life to be a better citizen and helping the community. JROTC is meant to prepare your future and goals. JROTC kept me motivated, focused, and on task. The main purpose of JROTC is to motivate young people to be better citizens. JROTC also helped me improve physical fitness and learn some military-related skills. JROTC has the opportunity to develop skills through participating in different teams like raiders, marksmanship, and orienteering. JROTC will also look good on a job resume with skills because most jobs are looking for someone that can take in charge of knowing what it is like being a leader. JROTC helped me with self-discipline and always being accountable for my actions and deeds. JROTC teaches you not to lie, cheat, or steal and to always be truthful with yourself and others. JROTC taught me how to march, hand salute, and learn Army and Cadet ranks.

Service-Learning is a teaching and learning strategy about civic responsibility. It helps strengthen your community. Service-learning enhances the academic curriculum of the students or the educational components of the community service program in which the participants are enrolled. Service-learning taught me the importance of reflecting on the community service that I performed and actually taking something away from the experience. My classmates and I had the opportunity to participate in community service activities at Cleveland High School. JROTC requires that service within the community be enhanced by requiring all Cadets to participate in a Service Learning Project. Service-learning brings academics to life and is driven by student involvement. Students have a direct impact on an identified need that interests and motivates them. It requires sequential lessons that are organized so orientation and training come before the meaningful service activity and structured reflection follows the activity. Service-learning meets a need in the community or regional industry and it relates to student’s course work. General volunteering involves just serving the community. For example, volunteering at a soup kitchen begins and ends with what one does at the soup kitchen. Service-learning does not being and end with the service rendered. Service-learning is an educational strategy that integrates community service with instruction and reflection to enrich learning experiences, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.

Service to others, to me, means being unselfish, it means doing something for someone else without expecting any reward or gain. Service to others, to me, also means helping people out when they cannot complete a task by themselves. Serving Others Love your neighbor as yourself – Matthew 22:39. The Christian life is one of service to others, where we show love and kindness to everyone, even to those who do not treat us well. We can serve others in many ways, and we should ensure that we use every opportunity that we can. Earn your success based on service to others, not at the expense of others. Service to others leads to greatness. Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.
