This paper will provide you an insight into my personal philosophy of life, my personal values and mission statement as well as discuss the organizational values and business ethics of the organization I currently work for.

'Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned'?

In order to be successful in business and to make ethical business decisions, it is important for one to truly understand their own worldview and be open to listen to and understand the views of others. My personal philosophy of life: the worldview I most closely identify with is completely opposite to those we studied in this course. I do not believe in god or higher powers so the thoughts of Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Aristotle. Marx and Aquinas are not in line with my beliefs. I discard the principle of the presence of a higher power. I believe that life is a result of unplanned, unconscious, evolutionary processes and that science and technology can and should be used as solutions to issues. I agree with Descartes who says cogito ergo sum meaning that we can’t be sure of anything.

I am an extremely rational, scientific, logical person, and for those reasons, I believe that I most closely identify with the modern philosophy. Unlike Thomas Aquinas, who says that social fellowship is one of the six laws, and Hinduism that says one of the biggest problems of humankind is ignorance and ego, modern thought believes that individuals should focus on themselves and are driven to perform and achieve. I believe that my worldview was influenced by many different people as well as the church, although I no longer believe in the church or God. I was raised a Christian and attended church every Sunday but when my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer and eventually passed I began to question the church and God as I didn’t understand why God would allow her to suffer for so long and then take her from me. I also didn’t understand why the reverend at the church wouldn’t allow me to choose who I wanted to be the godparents for my son when I became a mother at 16. Some beliefs that I have did come from the church. These include that all people are unique and valuable and belong and are full of possibility and that solutions to the issues should be nonviolent.

I don’t believe that I have any unresolved issues regarding my worldview. I am comfortable with my beliefs and always open to listen to others and reevaluating and realigning based on my true north. My biggest personal value is to put my “big rocks”, also known as the most important things to me, first. My “big rocks” are my family and my friends. The next is to live by the “Golden Rule” of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” by treating others the way I want to be treated and to seek first to understand and then be understood. This “Golden Rule” encompasses a lot of different morals and values including but not limited to being honest and fair and having integrity.

My mission is to live each day as if it were my last. To strive to be the very best me. To always be positive and see the best in every person and situation. I want to continue to grow and am dedicated to continuous learning also known as sharpening the saw as well as to teaching others everything I can. To live by the “Golden Rule” by treating people the way I want to be treated every day. I will always nourish the relationships with friends and family that I have while being open to and embracing new friendships and family. I will take the time to be a good listener and truly understand what one is saying before offering up my opinion and/or solutions and will work with friends, family and/or colleagues to come to a win-win agreement. I cherish my husband and children and I aim to always be the one person they can come to. I will provide them with financial security, a stable, loving home and the tools they need to succeed in life and be the best possible versions of themselves they can be. Most importantly, always SMILE.

I am currently employed by a medium sized private medical practice. We are committed to providing our staff with a professional, safe, and friendly place in which to work. We also are committed to providing our staff with the “tools” they need to be successful and build a strong team. Our vision is to become the number one provider of gastroenterology services in New Haven County and beyond. We strive to achieve our vision through our mission of guiding our patients along the path of optimal health and wellness, with an emphasis on providing the highest quality and cost-effective care in a compassionate and comfortable environment, with attention to detail and excellent patient service in every way. We apply the following core values and guiding principles to everything we do:

Expert Medical Care

Our focus is on consistently providing a quality care experience to our patients and their families/caregivers — each and every time. Using only the best materials, equipment, technology, diagnostic tools, and labs available, our entire staff is committed to providing the best treatment to each patient we serve.

We are holistic in our approach to diagnosis and treatment and considerate of our patients' individual needs and concerns. Understanding that some individuals are often not feeling well or are anxious about undergoing certain procedures or treatment, we strive to make each visit as pleasant as possible. We deliver patient care with empathy and understanding, trying to make sure that each patient feels relaxed during treatment and better for having spent time with us. As a medical practice, we have many different local, state and federal regulations to follow. We are often put into situations where ethical dilemmas may occur. We are committed to integrity. To ensure that our organization is making ethical decisions and does not have managers practicing normative myopia also known as overlooking ethical issues, the governing board of my organization, the Executive Committee, has created a strong ethics program that is managed by an ethics officer, and includes formal ethics training in many different formats as well as continuous monitoring, auditing and improvement of the program. We also have a written code of conduct that outlines what is considered ethical and what can be considered unethical. Some things our code of conduct include are: Not participating in fraud and abuse. Making sure that the services we bill for are medically necessary and actually happened.

Anti-kickback and competitive conduct. This means that we cannot accept anything of value for referrals for service.

Confidentiality – Following the regulations of the HIPAA Privacy Rule by protecting medical records and personal health information.

In conclusion, while everyone has a different worldview, it is important to understand your own view and get to know that of others so that we can work together by listening and truly understanding each other to make ethics programs that will help us make ethical decisions that are win-win for everyone.
