Eventhough the concepts of “peacemaking” and “collective security” have been issued to various academic studies on the framework of United Nations in the Korean War with its role /position /resolution as a subject of Cold War period .These studies analyse Korean War in itself , the United Nations and other actors . The PhD Thesis review on the Proquest Theses & Dissertations database from the online sources of Marmara University and written sources of the Library of Marmara University ,with the key words of ” peacemaking” and ” collective security ” exposed that many dissertations were written for the United Nations and its role/resolution/position in the Korean War .

The examples contained : United Nations , Everyone’s United Nations , New York : UN ,1986 ; Sandler ,Stanley ,The Korean War No Victors No Vanquished ,London : Ucl Press ,1999 ; Karn ,Margaret P ; Mingst, Karen A , International Organization The Politics and Processes of Global Governance ,Boulder ,Colorado : Lynne Rinner Publishers , 2004 ,124-129 ; Calvocoressi , Peter , World Politics since 1945 , London : Longman ,1989 ,88-120 ; Werrell ,Kenneth P , Korean Atrocity! These works are limited on Turkish written resources but English or foreign resources are much more than the Turkish written resources .

However there are limited resources that viewed especially the this case . In fact , a research on the Proquest Theses and Dissertations database and on google scholars database shows that some important portion of the works .The examples include : Schnabel , James F , Policy and Direction The First Year Korean War Us Army in the Korean War , Washington , Dc,1992 ; Hauben , Jay , “Is the United Nations Role in Korea 1947 – 1953 the Mode Being Repeated Today ,2012 ; Hauben , Ronda ,” Us Misrepresents its Role In Korean War and Armistice Agreement as United Nations Command ,taz blogs ,June 26 ,2013 ; Ambassador Jin Son Ho at the UN ; Stueck ,William , Rethinking the Korean War : A New Diplomatic and Strategic History , New Jersey : Princeton Press ,2002 ; Millett ,Alan R ,The Korean War Volume One Korea Institute of Military History , Lincoln ,NE : University of Nebraska Press ,2000 ; Hwang , Su – Kyoung , Korea’s Grevious War ,Philadelphia : University of Pennysylvania Press , 2016 In the light of these researches on theses and dissertations’ databases .It is attention grabbing that there are a few studies ,which handle United Nations’ role / resolution / position in the Korean War in a historical and theoretical framework .

The absence of many work that analyses primarily UN in the Korean War creates a little space in the literature , which needs to be performed .This study is special to fulfill working on the United Nations in the Korean War with the framework of ” peacemaking ” and ” collective security ” which were its main founding purposes or aims . Another contribution of the study is that analyses of Korean in various books. For example : The Hidden History of The Korean War by I.F.Stone .

That study is a controversial book, The Hidden History of the Korean War by I. F. Stone was originally published in 1952 during the Korean War (1950-1953) and republished in 1970 during the Vietnam War (1960-1975). It raised questions about the origin of the Korean War, made a case that the United States government manipulated the United Nations, and gave evidence that the U.S. military and South Korean oligarchy dragged out the war by sabotaging the peace talks. Publishing such a book in the U.S. during the time of McCarthyism, while the war was still continuing was an act of journalistic courage.

Forty years later, declassified U.S., Soviet and People’s Republic of China documents both confirmed some and corrected some of Stone’s story. Until his death in 1989, Stone was an experienced and respected, independent, left-wing journalist and iconoclast. This book-length feat of journalism, with over 600 citations for his quotes and materials, is a testament to Stone’s search for a way to strengthen his readers to think for themselves, rather than be overwhelmed by official stories and war propaganda. However , there are also another book resourses which analyse the Korean War . That was written by Christoph Bluth, a professor of international studies at the University of Leeds and a founding member of the Korean Research Hub, seeks to explain the North Korean security crises from both a historical and geopolitical perspective. He has spent time in Seoul at Yonsei University as a visiting professor and as a scholar with the Korean Institute of Defense Analysis. Bluth provides a balanced narrative of the ongoing crisis between North Korea and its neighbors suitable for both academic and general audiences. Unfortunately, his book adds little to current scholarship and demonstrates the difficulty most authors experience while analyzing North Korea.Crisis on the Korean Peninsula / Published April 05, 2013 Crisis on the Korean Peninsula by Christoph Bluth. Potomac Books, 2011, 272 pp.

Another book source about the Korean War is The Korean War : The Story and Photograps by Donald M. Goldstein, Harry J. Maihafer. This compelling photographic history examines the war in its entirety, from its causes and protagonists to the strategies, weapons and battles. Goldstein and Maihafer have collected more than 450 vivid photographs, many never before seen by the general public. Published on the fiftieth anniversary of the Korean conflict, The Korean War remembers the experience of the American fighting man in “the forgotten war.” Last but not least , another original contribution of this study is that it is going to measure the Korean Conflict in Cold War Athmosphere is that Masuda Hajimu’s Cold War Crucible is an inquiry into this peculiar nature of the Cold War. It examines not only centers of policymaking, but seeming aftereffects of Cold War politics during the Korean War: Suppression of counterrevolutionaries in China, the White Terror in Taiwan, the Red Purge in Japan, and McCarthyism in the United States. Such purges were not merely end results of the Cold War, Masuda argues, but forces that brought the Cold War into being, as ordinary people throughout the world strove to silence disagreements and restore social order in the chaotic post-WWII era under the mantle of an imagined global confrontation. Revealing social functions and popular participation, Cold War Crucible highlights ordinary people’s roles in making and maintaining the “reality” of the Cold War, raising the question of what the Cold War really was.

Another book sources which analyzed the Korean War the Truman – MacArthur Contraversy and The Korean War by Professor John W. Spanier that examines the central issue of this crisis–the grave challenge to the traditional concept of civilian supremacy, resting in the President of the United States, over the military, that was posed by MacArthur’s stand. He makes it clear that this controversy was not unique, that it stemmed not only from MacArthur’s personality but also from tremendous pressures to change a “limited war” into a total effort for complete victory. After all , these researches might be able to help us to analyzed the United Nations in the Cold War specific to Korean War on various ways .
