Marriage is a socially and ritually recognized institution, traditionally between a man and a woman. Marriage is an integral part of every person’s life. Marriage, as defined by the bible, says ‘Marriage is a covenant, a sacred bond between a man and a woman instituted by and publicly entered into before God and normally consummated by sexual intercourse’

The concept of Indian wedding has seen drastic changes over past few years. wedding ceremonies are one of the most celebrated events in India also the pre and post events like engagement, wedding reception etc. These days we are very much interested in coming to western culture and their trends we can observe these changes in our marriage ceremonies and other related functions like reception, engagement etc. Earlier, the ceremony was a brief affair, confined to a predetermined budget, even though the guest list was long.

On the contrary, in the present day scenario, the occasion is generally celebrated in an elaborate way, with a number of rituals that are conducted before, in the middle and after it. A long list of various guests, cheerful and extravagant venue, lavish feast and a series of rituals are the key ingredients of the ‘big fat Indian wedding’ that we see today. Marriage function has become one of the most revolutionized areas. There is another trend is upcoming, people select certain destinations for their wedding like Tourist spots, Famoushotels, Resorts, Beaches etc. India is famous for tourist spots we have beautiful places like Goa, Kashmir, Shimla, Bangalore, Kerala, and Rajasthan.

Indian society is too conservative but these days there are a lot of changes taking place, especially in marriage functions like a few years back parents were to decide life partner for their children but these days youngsters are selecting their life partner by themselves and young generation get into good jobs and they earn enough money, they can take care of expenses of their marriage by themselves. Youngster’s plan their wedding themselves but most of them get help from a wedding planner or event management organiser since even though they spent money in their wedding they still don’t have many ideas about customs, rituals and other things to be organised like they don’t have any idea on wedding Venue Prices, best Wedding Venues available nearby, decorations, catering, photography etc, which these professionals have perfect knowledge about it.

It is still prevalent in both rural and urban parts of India, rural being more inclined towards the system. In fact, arranged marriages are in majority, because our society is orthodox, not all people have accepted the concept of love marriage. However, with the passage of time, people in India have accepted the concept of love marriage to some extent, which is otherwise considered against the Indian culture. rural populations are now more liberal when it comes to love marriages. Therefore, both love and arranged marriages find equal importance in the wedding scenario of India.

Earlier, marrying a person belonging to some other caste, religions or community was strictly not permitted by the Indian society. With the modernization and liberalization of the Indian families and social awareness of the people and the societies,inter-caste and inter-religion marriages have become a common sight. This is basically due to the acceptance of the concept of love marriage. Nonetheless, people with an orthodox or conservative mindset about life are still firm and rigid about marrying within the same caste, community, and religion. Contrary to this thought, people, these days believe in celebrating weddings of two different individuals belonging to different family background and culture. [2]

Same-sex marriage is also known as gay marriage. It is the marriage between two people of the same biological sex or gender identity. Marriage is the union and acceptance of love of two people (whether of the same sex or of opposite sexes) who admit to romantically loving and caring for each other. In India, so far no such progressive changes have taken place and the homosexuals unluckily remain victims of violence in different forms supported by the state and society. Gay and lesbian rights activists from various parts of the countries were protesting for their rights and for decriminalizing the homosexual conduct. There is a big debate in our country too whether it should be legalized or not.

This is a welcoming and good sign for the growth of the country. Widows are permitted to take up jobs, attend functions and ceremonies. The level of suppression of widow in the name of widowhood is gradually vanishing. The incidence of remarriage is luckily showing an increasing trend for the past few decades[3]. Remarriage in India is considered as a neglected factor and women are not allowed to marry again after the sudden death of her spouse. But recently the trend is changing and more windows are willing to get married again and the most welcoming aspect is that more young men are willing to accept widows.

Youth of today generation follow the individualistic values and western teachings that make them focused on personal selves, they first look at their own growth/ career and wishes than of others and such attitudes sometimes result in unreasonable arguments, disagreement and disputes with their spouses and that is also why in the modern times the instances of divorce and desertion are high.

The youth of the modern era admires the institution of marriage with modernized and westernized vision, marriage has not been reduced to the level of a mere civil contract although the holiness of the same is little affected. The youth rather than trying to embrace the companionship of a husband and a wife on the foundation of love, empathy, trust and mutual consent. Although the values of the youth are strong, individualistic those also provide space for each other’s growth and preferences.
