We are living in a world where everything moves around appearance and where likes, retweet or shares on social media are the top priority. Twitter. Facebook. Instagram. Admit it, you know you have one. Social networking sites such as these have become a regular part of our daily life, and routine: wake up, check Facebook. Shower, check Facebook. Drive to the store, write about it on Twitter. Besides the total loss of privacy that comes with these networks, they can also affect employment possibilities. How?

Allowing unknown users access to private information, social media is being criticized and believed to impair people’s ability to handle real-life problems in the proper way. In addition, studies have shown a negative correlation between Facebook use and college GPA. The best propose is that people should delete their Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts, or at least take a break from the Social Media life. The average person has about 120 Facebook friends. There are people who have 300 or 400 “friends” on their friends list on Facebook, and thousand of followers on Twitter and Instagram.

Privacy is a concept that is not so accepted anymore i the world of Social Media, in every one of your accounts now is available the possibility of sharing your exact location date and time of where and when you are and with the possibility of attaching pictures or any other kind of information to your post. Status updates range anywhere from what someone had for lunch to discussing the latest relationship, work, family, and even health drama. As face-to-face contact become less and less available and wanted, so do the personal relationships. Instead of creating real not virtual relationships with a few select people.

Facebook users tend to place a value of their worth based on how many people they have on their friends list. Or how many tweets or like I got, everything has come down to the point where people show off their lives as much as possible to make others jealous of their success. When entering social media plays against us in many different way, because colleges and employers are now searching Facebook and other social networking sites for information about future students and hires. For example when you apply for Graduate School, the admissions department could view your Facebook page to learn a little more about you.

Since having a private page on social media is very far from having actual privacy, therefore many departments are able to view your profiles and gather information about your personal lifes. Social media has affected and keep affecting our lives in many different ways, some good and some bad, but as almost everything in this world for more people has become an addiction, a first priority and many people would not be able to spend less the one hour without checking into their social media or posting something to keep followers and friends that you might not even know updated on your daily life.

So here is my proposal for every social media addict: unplug. Or turn off, all your devices and put the away out of reach, start by just going one weekend without logging on Facebook or Twitter, and if you can’t just drastically get rid off social media try to post less about your social life and step back at least once a week try to bound more with real people then with real time users.
