Smart phones are gadgets that are similar to personal computers. They are portable and handy. It works on an operating system that are developed and maintained by software developers. Many applications and advanced features are available in smart phones such as internet, instant messenger and e-mail and also built-in keyboard. With the growing speed of technological advancement, Smart phones have become the essential components of our daily performance. Many of our necessities are by and large carried by the use of smart phones. For example, the implementation of NFC (Near Field Communication) in our cell phone, it is now easy for people to purchase anything from shops by simply tapping the phones on the card swipe machine. Moreover, many applications are available on smart phones which makes a convenient way to purchase things.
Students are largely benefited with the advancement in the cell phone technology. They can easily access online lecturing classes and other applications such as flashcard and quiz lets which gives them a feedback of what they have learned. Students these days are more dependent on their cell phones than using computers. Furthermore, cell phones can be used as a Stethoscope to find Early Detection of Respiratory Disorders in children living in rural areas, where they have lass access to hospitals. The process was done by acquisition of the lung sound that was recorded in a cell phone based modified stethoscope by local health worker. The recorded file along with case history of the child is send to the health care center for further analysis of the report. The method detects the disease with an accuracy of 90% and with specificity of 95%. The overall accuracy of this method is 92.5%. (Khan, Jawarkar, Ahmed, 2012). The report (lung sound, analysis results and case history) is checked by a medical practitioner at health-care center on daily basis and necessary subscription is sent to designated rural local health care worker. Samsung cell phone model Galaxy Y was used for implementation. This work has great significance for evolving solutions towards rural health care of undeveloped and developing countries.
