With the adoption of a new technology, rises the need for enhanced and improved experience. Private cloud is secure, but it lacks scalability and is cost intensive, on the other hand public cloud though less cost intensive and highly scalable, lacks critical data security especially for companies who wish to keep their data within their own geographical boundary. To leverage the features of both public and private clouds the concept of Hybrid cloud was born.

But each new technology brings with it new challenges:

  1. Security, Policy and Compliance: Though Hybrid Cloud offers flexibility; security of mission critical data persists because of the interference of the third-party cloud provider. Since the data commutes within the cloud models, hackers are attracted to try their tricks. Cloud providers should strictly comply with the cloud privacy and security standards, as even a little negligence could involve high risk with respect to company’s confidential information.
  2. Capacity Planning and Management: Load testing and all quality assurance activities need to be done before offering a hybrid cloud solution to the customers. Capacity planning involves proper sizing of the resources, in the form of cloud services, storages, application servers, virtual machines and other such services.
  3. Data and Application Integration: Data and application needs to be integrated with both the public and private clouds in order to utilize the service perspectives of both the clouds to the fullest, extending proper resource and service utilization. If maintained profoundly, integration takes effectiveness to the next level, but could lead to disaster if it lacks concentration.
  4. Networking: During downtime and when the server is busy, it becomes difficult to transmit and receive data with speed over different cloud models. It adds to latency when there are network and bandwidth connectivity issues.
  5. Portability and Compatibility of Deployment: Since the development tools and application vary from customers and clients, the deployment process may take time to be made portable and compatible with the provided cloud. This delays the integration with different platforms.
  6. Scaling hybrid cloud: Since hybrid is a mixture of different cloud providers and models, scaling may become a challenge if the requirements of the customers arise suddenly. Since the portability and compatibility takes time, scaling may need time and money as well. This is a customer specific challenge. Scaling is mostly dependent on customer’s needs and funding. Scaling can be done easily with public cloud by providing high availability proxies, conditional (CPU%, disk read/write%, network in, network out, etc.) spinning up and down the virtual machines and its related services.
  7. Cloud Management: The architecture and deployment of the Hybrid cloud should be concrete and supportive to give the organizations a distinct set of solutions in every instance of complexity. Adopting Hybrid Cloud is highly effective for businesses looking to expand enormously and maintain authority and principal in the market analysis. This industry insight is a clear indicator of the popularity of this model and the benefits on offer to enterprises.

Ultimately, organizations can leverage the Public Cloud facility and capability without shifting all of its data to the third-party, while keeping the most vital components in firewall, under security and observance. It is a win-win situation for the enterprise and once the challenges are surmounted, enterprises can leverage the multiple benefits on offer.
