Sally Ride

Sally Ride's full name is sally kristen ride she specialized in being a physicist she was also a astronaut specifically a girl american astronaut. The big thing she did was that she was the first girl american to go into space and was and still is the youngest person to this day to go into space. Personal life Sally ride did not like other people knowing about her personal life but we know that she married another NASA astronaut Steve Hawley. When she died we found out that her partner for 27 years was Tam’OShaughnessy.

Tam’OShaughnessy was a professor emerita of school psychology in santiago state university.Fun facts Something that she did was prove that there is such thing as a stupid question she did this by saying that will the flight mess up your reproductive organs. I also found out that she was not good at home economics. Her father's name was Burdell ride and her mother was Carol joyce sally ride was borne in los angeles she had only one sibling her name was karen bear ride she was a presbyterian minister. Both off sally rides parents were elders in the presbyterian church.

Leaving NASA

In 1987 sally ride left her position at NASA to work at the stanford university center for international security and arms control. In 1989 she became a professor of physics at the university of california san diego she was also the director of the space institute. From the mid 1990s till her death she led two public outreach programs for NASA. The names are ISS earthkam, and grail Moonkam. Legacy In April 2013 the U.S Navy announced that a research ship would be named after sally ride and in 2013 janelle monae made a song for sally ride that was called sally ride also in 2013 astronauts chris hadfield and catherine coleman performed a song called ride on. Also, in 2013 the the space foundation gave sally ride their greatest honure to her which was the general james E. hill lifetime space achievement award.

On may 2013 a national tribute to sally ride this was held at the John f. Kennedy center for the performing arts in washington DC on the same day that president Barack obama announced that sally ride would receive the presidential medal of freedom that medal is the highest civilian award in the United states. She has many more awards but the one that was very recent was that google doodle honored her by making her a part of international women's day. Sally Ride died July 23 2012 at the age of 61 she died at her home in la jolla california after seventeen months of being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. When she died she was cremated her ashes were spread by her father at woodlawn memorial cemetery santa monica.

Sally ride was one out of 8,000 people that answered advertisement in the stanford student newspaper for the space program. Sally ride was chosen to work for NASA in 1978. During the time she worked for NASA she worked as a ground- based capsule communicator also known as cap com for the second and third space flights. She also helped develop the space shuttles canadarm robot arm.
