As the United States started to flourish in the late 1800s and 1900s more and more immigrants started to move to the US. Immigrants came from all around the world including Asia and Europe. Immigrants started to face hardships and difficulties as more came to the US. Immigrants were not treated fair and had to face a lot. Some of these immigrants were Jewish who came from Israel and Europe. Israel is a country in the Middle East that consist of Jewish people. The Israeli people faced many difficult challenges in Israel that caused them to move to the US. In the late 1900s, a war broke out between the Israeli and Palestinians. This caused many people to move to seek refuge from the war. Another reason Israelis moved was because of high taxes and lack of housing. Many emigrated to find a better place to live and have better life opportunities. Many Isreali immigrants faced challenging experiences in the United States because of discrimination, assault, and much more like economic problems.
The biggest problem the Jewish people had to face was discrimination. They were segregated from places. For instance, “Private schools, camps, colleges, resorts, and places of employment all imposed restrictions and quotas against Jews, often quite blatantly” (Sarna).
The Jews weren’t allowed to go to some places like privates schools and resorts. There were restrictions where they were allowed to go and not. They were also stopped allowed from working in some places. This shows how the Jews were treated based on their religion. It depicts discrimination against their religion and them. Another example of this is, “During World War I and the Great Depression, Jews were often targeted as scapegoats” (PBS). Scapegoats are people being blamed for mistakes and the fault of others. Jews in America were accused and targeted for bad things that happened. People thought they were the cause of it including (Henry Ford, founder of the Ford Motor Company, relentlessly blamed Jewish Americans for many of the nation's ills in his newspaper). Henry Ford was a big industrialist who founded Ford. He was among the people who blamed Jewish people for all the bad stuff that happened. He also wrote badly about Jewish people in his newspaper. IT shows how Jewish people were blamed and treated badly for things others did. Discrimination against Jews affected their life in America. It made their lives harder as they weren’t allowed to have some jobs and go to some places they liked. In conclusion, discrimination caused Jewish immigrants from Israel to have a challenging time in a new country.
Jewish people got assaulted by people for other people’s crimes. They got attacked for no reasons and an example of this is, “Attacks on Jews became increasingly common, and acts of discrimination against Jews increased” (Immigration to the United States). People attacked Jews and after a time it became more and common. Discrimination against them also increased as the attacked did. They were attacked everywhere and it only got worse. This affected their safety in America. They got attacked frequently so they weren’t safe. Leo Frank was a Jewish businessman who was accused of killing a coworker but was let go due to a lack of evidence. People took him from his jail cell and lynched him (PBS). People accused Jewish people of crimes they didn’t commit. Then people took matters into their own hands by attacking the people who were found not guilty. This shows that people attacked Jewish people for little reasons. The safety of Jewish people was decreasing as America became a bad place for them to live. They couldn’t go out to places without being afraid. It caused them to go out to work which they needed to provide for themselves and their families.
Israeli immigrants faced harsh challenges during the Great Depression Era. Many people faced problems during the Great Depression as money was more valuable and the need for jobs increased. Immigrants faced more problems as the citizen didn’t want them taking all the jobs. This caused many conflicts with citizens and immigrants. Jews faced “ the growth of antisemitism at home and abroad as well as the economic and social challenges” They faced economic and social challenges which caused them to have a difficult time. They also had social challenges with them having problems interacting with other peoples. They had more money problems as they had a harder time to find jobs than citizens. It caused social problems are the jobs they did find people wanted the jobs instead of the immigrants that were coming to America. They had to face his while trying to live in the US and support their families. With there were fewer jobs for everyone people didn’t want immigrants to come and take more jobs. This caused problems like “consistently refused to permit immigration of Jewish refugees” (Wikipedia). Jewish refugees from countries like Israel and Europe were rejected from being allowed into the country. They weren’t allowed to come into the US for a safe haven. They were rejected as they search for jobs that caused conflict with the citizens who think immigrants shouldn’t have their jobs. Jewish immigrants had to face many different problems emigrating to a new country.
Immigrants faced a lot of challenges in the US which included immigrants from Israel who were Jewish. They were discriminated against due to their religion. They were treated harshly and badly and faced economic and social challenges. They had trouble with money and interacting with others. This was because there was a restriction on where Jewish people could work or go. They had limited places they can go to eat and etc. They also couldn’t have some jobs including holding office or work in some government jobs. Anti-semitism also played a big role in the immigration of Jewish people. This caused people to hate Jewish people. People treated Jewish people bad and accuse them of crimes they didn’t commit and attack and killed them. Israeli immigrants had to face a lot of prejudice and discrimination. Immigration to a new country was not easy for them. Though many did face a lot some didn’t have to face anything. Overtime immigration of Israeli immigration easier and less brutal. In conclusion, Israeli immigrants face a lot of antisemitism, discrimination, got attacked, and much more.
