Alexander Hamilton was born or January 11, 1755 or 1757 in a small town called Nevis located in the british west indies. His parents, Rachel Fawcett Lavien and James Hamilton, were of British and French Huguenot descent, and a Scottish trader. At the time of Hamilton’s birth Rachel was married to John Lavien. Rachel left because of the troubled marriage and moved to St. Kitts. There she moved in with James Hamilton where they had another son. After moving back James decided to abandon the family. In 1773 Hamilton arrived in New York and then was enrolled into King’s College now renamed as Columbia University. Hamilton married his beloved wife Elizabeth Schuyler on December 14 1780. Aaron Burr was born in Newark, New Jersey, on February 6, 1756. Burr’s father was a Presbyterian minister and the president of the College of New Jersey. After the losing both of his parents Burr and his sister went to live with their wealthy uncle. At the age of 13 Burr enrolled at the College of New Jersey and graduated summa cum laude in only three years. After graduating, Burr started to attend Litchfield Law School in Connecticut. Burr started to put his studies on a hold because of the revolutionary war.
By 1776 Burr was appointed to serve under George Washington at his home in New York. After Burr transferred to the staff of General Israel Putnam, until he retired from his commission in 1779. Burr eventually returned to studying law. In 1789 he married a widow, Theodosia Prevost. Burr and Theodosia had a daughter, their only child and was named named after her mother Theodosia. Burr and his wife, Theodosia were happily married until her death in 1794. Sadly Burr also experienced losing his only child, Theodosia in a shipwreck.
The duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr was a turning point in history. Hamilton was often talking bad about Burr and how he was a dangerous opportunist. After being in the senate for about 6 years, Burr lost re-election to Schuyler. Burr blamed Hamilton for ruining his reputation and turning voters against him. “ Alexander Hamilton campaigned against Aaron Burr with great fervor, and Aaron Burr lost the Federalist nomination. Aaron Burr’s resolution to get revenge at Alexander Hamilton was decided by challenging Alexander Hamilton to a duel or as they called it, “an affair of honor.” Hamilton had been involved in several affairs of honor in his life and resolved most of them peaceably. On July 11, 1804, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr met at 7 a.m. at Weehawken, New Jersey. During this duel Burr slays Hamilton. Hamilton decided the duel was morally wrong and deliberately fired into the air. According to Burr he claimed that Hamilton fired the gun but miss him. “Hamilton was taken back to New York, and he died the next afternoon.” Burr was later charged with murder, but then “He later returned to private life in New York, the murder charges against him were forgotten”
