Legally Blonde Reflection

The story in Legally Blonde is about Elle Woods, who has a degree in fashion, and who is dumped by her boyfriend when he’s accepted into Harvard Law school. Warner dumps her because he is playing off the stereotype that she is a dumb blonde and he is too good for her. This was one of the biggest stereotypes throughout the movie. Elle decided to challenge Warner and spent all summer practicing to pass the LSATs and get accepted into Harvard law school, which she did successfully. She dumps her fashion endeavors behind and drops everything to become a lawyer.

When she first goes into law school she has a bad run in with a professor who embarrassed her in front of the whole class for not knowing the material. She sees Warner at the school and he is surprised that she actually got in because, again, he thinks that she is just a dumb blonde; later she will prove to him that he was very wrong. Despite joining law school just to get closer to Warner, Elle faces a predicament when she finds out that Warner is engaged to his old girlfriend Vivian. She was very upset to hear that he was engaged because one of the main reasons she went to Harvard Law school in the first place was to get Warner back. By the end of the movie, she realizes her true purpose, which is not to get the guy, but instead to prove herself to not just Warner, but to everyone.

Elle also tries to help everyone around her in the best ways that she can. She befriends one woman while at Harvard, named Paulette, and helps her get the guy she wants. Not only does this movie showcase the various stereotypes some girls have to face, it also embodies the characteristics of friendship. Also, throughout the movie, Elle did not like Vivian. At one point, Elle and Vivian get on the same project where they must prove a wife innocent of her husband's murder. Elle is familiar with the woman on trial because she is a well known fitness trainer, so she does everything in her power to prove her innocent. Eventually, she succeeds. During the movie, Elle strengthens her friendship with Vivian throughout most of the movie. Therefore, not only does this movie show the different stereotypes of women, it also showcases friendship.

The main theme of this movie is that you should not judge a book by its cover, and there are other stereotypes some characters portray. When in court, when the team of lawyers is trying to prove the wife innocent. They question her pool boy. The pool boy said that he had sexual relations when in court, when the team of lawyers is trying to prove the wife innocent. They question her pool boy. The pool boy said that he had relations with the wife. During a recess, after this so called truth was revealed, Elle sees the pool boy, whose name is Enrique, outside of the court room; there, he mentions “last season shoes," and she realizes that he is gay, because he knows so much about fashion, and so does she, and she assumes that he is gay because of this statement. Elle realizes she can use this in the courtroom to her advantage. When they get back from the recess, one of the lawyers on her team rapid fires questions at Enrique, the last one asking him who his boyfriend was. Henrique responded, “Chuck,” and he realized his mistake right away. This proved that Enrique could not have sexual relations with the wife; however, it does play on the stereotype of gay men knowing fashion.

Elle faces one of the hardest stereotypes you can face. The professor who put her on his team ended up only doing it to further a relationship with her. Elle thought she got the position because of her knowledge and strategy, but the professor belittled her, and used her for her beauty, which made her upset. This would make any girl try to prove herself of the world upset. At the end of the day, Elle’s knowledge of fashion more than her knowledge of law saved the day. The daughter of the husband who was murdered blamed the wife for the murder. She said that she was out getting a perm early in the morning on the day of his death. She got home, took a shower, and did not hear a gunshot; however, she did leave the shower to see the wife standing over him covered in blood, which she said made her to believe that the wife killed him. Elle realizes the mistake she made; when somebody gets a perm, they are not supposed to wash it for days after they get it. The daughter, while at the stand, had a perfectly curly hair. If her hair was perfectly curled, she could not have been taking a shower because it would have ruined her perm. Therefore, the daughter could have heard the gunshot. If she did, however, she would have went right away to check out where the sound came from. Since she didn’t one can only assume that she is the killer. The daughter then confesses to accidentally killing her father; she thought the person walking into the room was the wife and was trying to kill her, but shot before was too late. She was then arrested and the wife was proven not guilty; she used her knowledge of fashion for the better, and it worked out in the end for everybody. Warner, after realizing how well I'll do it in the case, asks her if she will take her back. Now, since L realizes her worth, she decides not to take ward back, and instead finds a new guy who eventually proposes to her. Her and Vivian also become best friends forever. Warner is left all alone. At the end of the day, justice was served.
