The Ethical Issues Surrounding Children's Beauty Pageants and Why They Should Be Banned

Most of these children’s beauty pageants engage the use of makeups to make the children look beautiful. Applying makeups on children’s tender skins may turn out hazardous in future. Child’s skin is susceptible to chemicals, hence should not be exposed to the use of makeups. Children’s beauty pageants ruin the child personality. These contests appraise the looks and appearances more than character. As the child is exposed to these forums, they grow with the mentality that their outward beauty is the most significant element of their personality. It is most likely that such children will fancy their looks more than their character, hence ending up developing bad habits and undesirable traits. This aspect may also expose the children to mental disorders shortly, upon the full realization that personality is not based on appearance (Kelly, Jessica et al. Pg.23).

The Children’s beauty pageants concentrate on beauty and appearance. They lack moral lessons that can nature the child to a responsible adult. Parents spend a lot of money to buy the expensive costumes and pay for registration into the contests. However, these competitions have no moral lesson that may add value to the future life of a child. Instead, Children’s beauty pageants are breeding grounds for sexualizing girls at tender ages. Children adopt these modes of dressings which expose them to sexual encounters at early ages. Commercializing childhood is nothing different from child labor. The producers and host of these shows use children to make millions of money from viewers. The shows are also designed for commercials, which the producers earnest a lot of money by using the children. In conclusion, Children’s beauty pageants are unethical and should be banned.
