There are five primary goals in criminal justice. These five things are preventing crime, protecting the public, supporting victims, families, and witnesses, holding people accountable for their crimes, and helping offenders become law abiding citizens. Prevention crime is basically trying to stop it before it happens. Protecting the public means keeping them safe and out of harm’s way. Supporting of these persons is making sure they receive justice and are safe. Some situations can be dangerous for these people after court. Holding people accountable is making sure that the person who committed the crime receives the punishment. No matter what the condition is they should always receive a universal punishment. If a person is guilty they should be sentenced not an innocent person. Helping criminals become better people is the last goal. When they are released, the hope is they will not repeat the same mistake. Sometimes this happens but it is an aim of criminal justice for it not to happen.

All of these goals are very important because they all play an essential role in criminal justice. I feel even if one was removed the entire system would be affected. These goals organize and give structure to crime and punishments associated with them. Each punishment is given based on the severity of the crime. If you do something extremely bad the punishment will be higher. There are some controversies regarding this however. Some crimes are not considered that bad to each person.

In my opinion the most important of these would have to be protecting the public. I think that is more effort was given to this that less crime would happen. If more officers patrolled less crime would happen. Protecting people should be the main concern of officers.
