In early 1865, Fredrik Idestam built a paper mill in South Finland and took it up by starting a second mill in the town of Nokia in 1868. After three years Idestam transformed his company to a share company and the Nokia company was formed.
Nokia kept growing through the 19th century and in the 1960s the company jumped into the field of electronics. In the next two years, it developed electronic devices including radiotelephones. In 1979 Nokia stepped into telephony by creating Mobira Oy in a JV with Finnish TV maker Salora and made the Nordic Mobile Telephone service. This was the world’s first international cellular network and in the 80s, Nokia launched its first car phone called the Mobira Senator. After five years Nokia launched the Mobira Cityman, the first mobile phone that would run on the company’s NMT network. The 90s were the glory years for the Nokia Corporation. In 1994, Nokia launched 2100 with the now iconic Nokia ringtone. After three years it launched Snake, one of the most popular mobile game.
In 1997, Nokia launched the Communicator, which 11 years before the first iPhone was closer of its time. The device looked cool but also offered email, calendar, and a massive display features. In the same year, Nokia also launched two more devices Nokia 6110 and Nokia 5110, which were advanced at their time. These devices gave a smooth way of text messaging and an attractive menu system for user attraction. After these devices, 7110 was also introduced, which has the basic web functions. After that 7650 was launched which have a built-in camera and then it was followed by 6650 which was the first 3G smartphone. In 1998 Nokia was the global leader in the mobile phone world. Due to its advancement of a company its rivals like Apple, Sony and Siemens have failed to fulfill the global demand.
Every rise has a fall. After the glorious decade of 90’s, in 2007 the company starts to go down and rapidly in the year 2009, Nokia announced its first quarterly loss in more than a decade. This was due to the HTC smartphones having Google Android operating system. When iPhone and other smartphones take over the market at that time it was not possible for Nokia to take up with old stuff. Instead of joining with android systems Nokia joined with Microsoft and produced its popular Lumia series. But Nokia did not gain its fame again, its glorious era was gone. On November 3, 2013, Nokia sold out its hardware part to Microsoft. After eight months the deal was completed and with it came the end of an era. I have explained detailed reasons for the downfall of Nokia, due to which company have fallen down and how we can regain its fame again by taking several steps, and how to made the company better again.
