Most of the people in the Latino community have experienced some type of racial discrimination. They are all put into stereotypes that are not necessarily true. This is all racial profiling. This can come with different consequences. There is a difference when someone discriminates against you just because they are ignorant, and when the law allows them to do it. In Arizona they have a law that allows police officers and anyone with authority to racial profile Hispanics because they seem like a “reasonably suspect” or as if they were here “Illegally” (Liberation, 2012). This is basically taking away the freedom of Hispanics because it allows police officers to ask people who look Hispanic or illegal for legal paper work; it will also affect people who strive to protect the illegal alien, and employers who employ illegal aliens (Morse, 2011).

Many Hispanics claim that “this is not what a democracy looks like” (Moran,2012) . They feel as if their rights are being taken away. Especially for the people who are here with some sort of legal status and the ones that have never broken a law. Allowing the police to invade their personal information is not the way that this should be done, for the reason that it is targeting the wrong people. They are going for people who are driving without a license trying to get to work, taking their kids to school, or going to the hospital. Instead of doing that they should go after the criminals that are not good for this country. This is allowing officers to take away the right of Hispanic citizens because of their skin color, the language they speak, the cars they have, they do not have a proper driver’s license, or simply because they look nervous (Elene, 2012, para.3). This could come as a shocker for many people because they thought this was over when African Americans were given the same rights as the Caucasians. Hispanics are being put in the same place.

When the law was upheld by the Supreme Court many people thought it was unconstitutional. The law is only in effect in Arizona, but this has led other states to come up with similar laws. In Arizona agents from ICE had to investigate 2 sisters who lived together. They were told that the sister had a possession of drugs while they lived with their children. After searching their home, they didn’t find anything. They still called child protective services to take care of the kids while the sisters were sent back to their home country. Their children were put in foster care and now the mother know nothing about the fate of their children ( Elenes, 2012, para.5). Applied Research Center has discovered that over 5,000 children of illegal parents are being taken care off in foster care, because their parents have been deported (2011, para.1). If laws like SB1070 keep being approved the numbers could easily increase over the years.

This is causing families to be separated, and torn apart. Many parents don’t have the sufficient needs to get back to their kids, or get their kids with them. This is having an effect of psychological problems for the kids who have to witness that happen. Deputies in Maricopa County carry things to distract the children as they take their parents away to be deported and never see each other again (Elene, 2012, para.5). From my own point of view I can relate that this is really harmful for kids to see. This are images that will always stay with you, especially if it’s a kid was old enough to realize what was going on and not be fooled by a toy.

Hispanics will also play a big role in the 2012 election. Their role is to vote for the candidate that they feel will benefit for them the most. In the state of Arizona a big majority of the votes will go for president Barack Obama. The percent of respondents in Arizona that will vote for Obama is 64% since they feel better about this election than they did before. A smaller percent said their vote is going for Mr.Romney after hearing his plans on self-deportation and his support for the law SB1070 (Latinos Decision, 2012). Most Hispanics feel like immigration is a big deal for this election (Latino Decision, 2012) and now that president Obama did something about immigration providing young people of ages 15-30 years old a chance to get a work permit so that they can have a chance to work and possibly get a license. This is called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (IPC, 2012) which the people that for it can also be eligible to apply for the DREAM Act which was denied in 2010, which was the hope for many Hispanic children so they can put their degrees to work because without a social security number they are not allowed to work in the field in which they got their degrees in. Since Obama approved DACA, he has won most of the Hispanic vote.

Many Hispanics are racially profiled all the time. There is a huge difference when an ignorant person decides to put you into stereotypes that are not necessarily true, and when the law allows police officers and people in authority to racial profile Hispanics because they seem like a “reasonably suspect” or as if they were here “Illegally” (Liberation, 2012). Allowing the authorities to do that is affecting Hispanic families and their children also it will also affect people who strive to protect a Hispanic who could potentially be Hispanic or illegal, and employers who employ illegal people (Morse, 2011).

In the presidential election of 2012 Hispanics will play a big role on who wins. A big percent of Hispanics are voting for Mr.Obama because they feel that this is the person they will befit from the most. In the state of Arizona a big majority of the votes will go for President Barack Obama. The percent of Latinos in Arizona that will vote for Mr.Obama is 64% since they feel better about this election than they did before. A smaller percent said their vote is going for Mr.Romney after hearing his plans on self-deportation and his support for the law SB1070 (Latinos Decision, 2012). Latinos are going to do what best benefits them. Right now the biggest reason they will vote for Obama is that he came up with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Since the DREAM Act was denied by the Supreme Court in 2010, this is the closest thing they have to an accomplishment. DACA is allowing people of the age of 15-30 years old to apply for a work permit (IPC, 2012). The work permit is renewable, so that means they have to apply every 2 years. The benefits that come along with that is a Social Security Number, which means in some states they will be allowed to apply for a driver’s license. Mr.Romney said that if he gets elected into office he will veto the law, and that will be a setback for young Hispanics who were not allowed to apply yet because they were not 15 years old or couldn’t get all their documentation in on time.
