Two leadership styles that are currently applied to various organizations are participative and autocratic leadership. The autocratic leadership style enables managers to establish decision on their own. This form of leadership style is applied in organizations that do not allow their employees to participate in their various activities including their decision making processes. Examples of countries where organizations practice this form of leadership style include North Korea and Cuba. This form of leadership is closely linked to formal power since the power that leaders in such organizations apply is provided to them by the organizations. This form of organizational leadership is different from the Christian worldview of leadership that advocates for equality in the workplace. In autocratic leadership, organizational leaders have full power over those under them, and they are considered to be superior to employees (Yahaya & Ebrahim, 2016).
Participative organizational leadership ensures that employees are involved in almost all if not all organizational activities such as decision making. Even though the views and ideas of employees are allowed in the decision-making process, the final decision usually lies with the leader. Many organizations are currently applying this form of leadership because it has proved to be fruitful. This form of leadership makes employees to be more motivated and to contribute more towards their organizations. Thus, it improves their performances and productivity. This form of leadership has some elements that are similar to Biblical leadership since it considers all individuals regardless of their position as very valuable and important. Participative leadership facilitates leadership development goals since leaders can inspire others as they work with them.
About participative and autocratic leadership styles, there are leadership differences that are brought about by gender. In the current era, gender aspects are applied to the selection of organizational leaders. In organizations that uphold gender equality, different leadership styles are adopted so that both women and men can be incorporated in leadership roles. In many organizations, men tend to adopt an argent-leadership style that is goal oriented, independent, decision focused, active and task-oriented. In contrast, women tend to adopt a collective approach to leadership that entails involving employees in various processes such as decision making (Yahaya & Ebrahim, 2016).
