Why are junk foods more expensive than everyday healthier meals? Candy for example is so cheap to make that it becomes affordable for smaller children who are given small amounts of money to spend throughout the day. I know that if a child gets home late at night from playing a battle of hide and go seeks and their exhausted, they are just going to want a unhealthy snack knowing there is a perfectly good meal in the fridge. They are going to prefer a high surgery juice than a cup of water water.

The best way to help fix this dilemma is by simply cutting the amount of junk food snacks there are at home. Parents instead of buying lot of junk food to take home for snack, you should take some healthy snack so, that when the kids come home from school they have something healthy waiting for them. Also they won’t have to decide from a healthy snack and a unhealthy snack because we all know what they are going to choose.”Their mission is not public health but profit, so they’ll continue to sell the health-damaging food that’s most profitable, until the market or another force skews things otherwise.” (Bittman) Did you know that the average American consumes about 44.7 gallons of soft drinks annually not including the non carbonated sweetened beverages? That’s a lot of junk being poured into your system. But with a simple but strict self note, eating a tad bit healthier will end up making a huge difference to your body.

For example i myself made a Good/Bad Food survey and found out what people like best. “How many times a week do you order delivery/takeout?” (Landin) Most of the people that did my survey picked 1-2 times a week that’s how many time they eat out. Another question was “ Where do you eat your dinner?” (Landin) That’s important because a lot of people eat on the couch or in fyof the Tv and its way better at the table because your paying more attention to what you are eating. Doing a survey help yoj see what you need to work on and if your are really willing to eat healthier. In Jane E. Brody’s article, “Attacking the Obesity Epidemic by First Figuring Out Its Cause,” she mentioned that, “Schools that introduce healthful foods in the classroom have shown that they are more likely to be eaten in the lunchroom and at home” (Brody) Jane states how the influence of advertisement at school affects what they eat in and outside of school. If advertisements were portrayed more often on how healthy and beneficial they are to the human body, it may help change eating habits in schools, houses, and at restaurants. Children what to eat what they see on TV because other people eat it or because the tv lies saying its good for them. A Lot of commercial have little kids in there scene that helps them sell more because parents are willing to buy their children whatever they want to eat. Not because its good for them but because they prefer to go get a cold food microwave it and there dinners ready. Not knowing they can cause their own child a big problem in the future.

In conclusion , America needs to change the way they eat. The obesity rate is skyrocketing and it has taken a turn for the worst. Just by taxing junk food and making it more expensive than healthier foods, some people will be persuaded to eat healthier foods and the people who don’t want change will just have to pay a little bit more than usual. It may not make a HUGE different but at least we would be an effort to cartoonize junk food. I do not believe that candy and other junk foods should be banned but I atleast think that it shouldn’t be so easy to get price wise because I know its good but its not good for you. Those are just some easy but temporary fixes to have America eating healthy again.
