The video has put forward the theory of evolution by Darwin to be the answer. We once walked or rather climbed trees with apes millions of years ago until the great divide spawned due to geological activities that separated our common ancestors into two groups one of which is faced with new challenges. Scientists believed that geological forces is one of the main contributor for the evolution in our case. After the great divide, the environment on the other side have witnessed changes to climate changing the vast terrain that was once blanketed by forests into savanna. This allowed for other species of plants to grow that would normally be non existent in the forests like rice. Since the taller trees have died out and ferocious competitors have sprung, there is a need to adapt into bipedalism sacrificing feats like agility, protective hairs and more that are still evident in modern apes.
Moreso, competition on this side is more intense and resources became harder to find, usually miles away from each other, would made bipedalism the most viable choice for survival favoring the endurance to travel the vast land of africa over the strength of using trees. Bipedalism also opens new abilities that would be considered life saving including the able to spot danger, to carry tools while walking, and consequently developing precision in handling things and so on. It is believed that bipedalism came first and that, intelligence was only later developed. This belief was made after they analysed lucy, the very first hominid (australopithecus afarensis) to walk on two legs. Millions later, homo habilis appeared. They are specialized in creating tools.
It was later found that they were not our direct ancestors and so was put at the side of the tree of evolution. Another one is the homo erectus which stands straight as compared to lucy. Standing straight allows for a spacious larynx and other passages of air and so it is speculated that homo erectus might have created language for they are already capable of doing so. The next step of the evolution of humankind would unfold. The homo sapiens would later be living but only after the homo habilis become extinct. This type of homo is believed to be our direct ancestor because of their resemblance to modern humans. Another millions of years of evolution have brought us to this day, developing and enhancing intelligence like no other would. Intelligence is an investment that would bear fruit of inconceivable feats of possibilities beyond the wildest dreams that even us could not foresee at the risk of being wiped out without a hitch due to lack of traits that were once used by the previously dominant creatures: dinosaurs.
Perhaps it is not just innate to us humans to be risk takers, because our existence itself came from the geological accident and taking the risk to develop peculiar traits the world have yet to see for its 14 billion years of existence. I would describe the evolutionary line of humans, to be a leap of faith. For looking from an evolutionary stand of point, it really did introduced us a great deal of benefits but at the same time it presents an equally terrifying consequence would it become a failure and that is extinction.
