How many of us wake up and struggle to find an outfit that matches or is exceptional enough to wear to school? Teens spend a majority of their high school years keeping up with the latest styles. We worry about whether we look good enough for that guy to notice or whether we are dressed, accordingly, to fit in with the “popular” crowd.Today’s average high school teens are struggling with self-worth. “Over 70% of girls age 15 to 17 avoid normal daily activities, such as attending school, especially when they feel bad about their looks.” There have been many times where someone has felt confident in their outfit, but as soon as they get to school, someone criticizes them.

Today’s peer-pressure is one of the main reasons that teens struggle with confidence. If you don’t wear certain clothing that a group wears, then you are made to feel out of place or not part of the group. This is an example of how society forces us to have a certain image. We could fix this problem by not judging others, instead, we can compliment them with uplifting words. This would create a prominent atmosphere where no one would be afraid of what others think of them. If you see someone walking down the halls, don’t judge them; compliment them on something. If you don’t particularly like the outfit they are wearing just compliment them on their smile, attitude, or simply just give a friendly hello. Say something that makes them smile.Could you imagine how different the world would be if we simply just didn’t judge? The level of confidence and self-worth would be blowing through the roof. The next time we catch ourselves downgrading a person think about the golden rule; treat others how you want to be treated.
