Becoming a Pediatrician

Growing up, I had always been drawn to the idea of helping others. But it wasn’t until I witnessed my grandmother’s incredible strength and resilience in the face of illness that I knew I wanted to pursue a career in pediatric medicine. My grandmother was diagnosed with cancer when I was in high school. Despite the physical and emotional toll of the disease, she remained optimistic and fought hard to overcome it. I was struck by the compassionate care she received from her healthcare team, particularly the pediatric oncologists who treated her. Watching these professionals work tirelessly to provide high-quality care and support to my grandmother and other young patients inspired me to consider a career in pediatric medicine.

As I began to explore this field, I realized that I was deeply passionate about working with children and families, helping them to navigate difficult health challenges and improve their quality of life. I knew that becoming a pediatrician would allow me to have a meaningful impact on the lives of others, just as my grandmother’s care team had done for her.

When considering my options for pursuing this career path, Vanderbilt University’s School of Medicine stood out to me as the ideal place to pursue my goals.
