Growing up, I had always been interested in the medical field. But it wasn't until a life-changing event that I realized my true passion lay in pediatrics. When I was eight years old, my younger cousin was born with a rare genetic disorder. I watched as he underwent numerous medical procedures and spent a great deal of time in hospitals. Seeing the positive impact that his pediatrician had on his life and the lives of his family members made me realize that I wanted to have a similar impact on people's lives. It was then that I knew I wanted to become a pediatrician.
As I began my journey to pursue my passion, I came across the work of Dr. Benjamin Spock. Dr. Spock was a renowned pediatrician and author who wrote extensively on child care and development. His work and philosophy inspired me to pursue a career in pediatrics. The impact that Dr. Spock had on the field of pediatrics and the lives of countless children is what inspired me to study at the Geisel School of Medicine. The Geisel School of Medicine has a highly-regarded pediatric department, and I believe that the education and experience I will gain there will be invaluable in helping me achieve my career goals.
In addition to the school's excellent reputation, the Geisel School of Medicine's emphasis on research and community service aligns with my own values. I believe that research is vital to improving healthcare and I am excited at the opportunity to contribute to the medical field through research. Furthermore, the school's focus on community service aligns with my desire to give back to my community and help those in need.
My ultimate career goal is to become a pediatrician and work in a hospital that serves children from disadvantaged backgrounds. I believe that every child deserves access to quality healthcare and it is my passion to help make that a reality. Through the education and experiences I will gain at the Geisel School of Medicine, I am confident that I will be able to achieve my goals and make a positive impact in the lives of children and their families.
In conclusion, my passion for pediatrics stems from a personal experience with a loved one and the work of Dr. Benjamin Spock. The Geisel School of Medicine's reputation, emphasis on research and community service, and pediatric department align with my values and career goals. I am excited at the opportunity to pursue my passion and make a positive impact in the lives of children and their families through my career as a pediatrician.
