Growing up in a family where health care was a constant topic of discussion, I developed a deep appreciation for the impact that medical professionals have on individuals and communities. Witnessing my mother's tireless dedication as a nurse and my father's compassion as a physician, I realized that a career in medicine was my true calling. However, it was not until I began my undergraduate studies and immersed myself in various clinical experiences that my passion for medicine truly flourished, solidifying my desire to become a midwife and to attend Harvard University Medical School. I honestly asked myself, “Why this medical school?” As I will explain later in the essay, Harvard Medical School is the best place to become a specialist for several good reasons.
The healthcare profession I want to pursue is an Obstetrics and Gynecology or for short OBGYN and also interested to become a midwife. I have a lot of interests on being an OBGYN since years ago when I found out my older sister was pregnant with my first nephew. Ever since then I wanted to become an Obstetrics and Gynecology. I love helping people and I love babies so why not help mothers give birth while having their baby. I also want to pursue to be a midwife, 3 years ago when my sister gave birth to her last child which is my niece. It was an honor to be in the room with her, just seeing her give birth and the midwife helping her through out it. I fell in love with their job because once a baby is born they clean the baby and get the baby ready to hand it over to the mother . My sister was telling me that her midwife when she was in labor was the same lady that she will go to for her ultrasound. A midwife also helps mothers with their postpartum period. Most mothers go through postpartum depression once in their lifetime. When this happens they need to seek medical help as soon as possible. My sister’s midwife was amazing because there were times that my sister felt like giving up she had postpartum depression with her second child. She felt like a roller coaster she would be happy then at times it will hit her and she would be sad and all she would do is cry. She went to see her midwife and she was given medical treatment medical that consist of counseling and medication to calm her down. I would be able to do this for anyone due to me being a good listener and giving advice. I have known several mothers that have killed themselves due to their postpartum because they are single mothers, losing a loved one, low on money, stress and family problems.
To become a Midwife and Obstetrics and Gynecology, I will need to get a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a nursing diploma, or an Associate of Science in nursing. The main challenge for me to attend a medical school is that I am stil getting my Bachelor degree which I will finish in a few mounths. Only after this I will be able to sign up for a Harvard Medical School. Why I chose this medical school? One aspect that sets Harvard apart is its emphasis on the integration of research and clinical practice. The opportunity to engage in groundbreaking research alongside world-renowned faculty members would not only expand my scientific knowledge but also allow me to contribute to advancements in medical knowledge. Moreover, the unique collaborative environment at Harvard, where interdisciplinary teamwork is encouraged, will provide me with the platform to collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, fostering an environment of innovation and creativity.
Additionally, the diverse patient population and clinical experiences offered at Harvard-affiliated hospitals deeply appeal to me. I believe that exposure to a wide range of patients from different socioeconomic backgrounds and cultural perspectives is crucial in developing a well-rounded understanding of medicine. Harvard's commitment to providing comprehensive care to underserved populations aligns with my own passion for addressing healthcare disparities and ensuring equitable access to quality care for all.
Lastly, Harvard's emphasis on holistic education and the development of leadership skills aligns with my vision of becoming a physician who not only provides excellent medical care but also advocates for systemic change within the healthcare industry. The numerous extracurricular opportunities, such as involvement in student-led organizations, community service initiatives, and global health programs, would empower me to make a positive impact beyond the confines of the hospital.
In conclusion, the prospect of attending Harvard University Medical School is a dream that encompasses my lifelong passion for medicine, my commitment to excellence, and my desire to effect meaningful change in healthcare. Harvard's outstanding reputation, commitment to research and clinical innovation, diverse patient population, and supportive community align perfectly with my aspirations. I am grateful for the opportunity to apply to Harvard University Medical School, and I look forward to the possibility of joining this exceptional institution and embarking on a transformative journey that will shape me into a compassionate, knowledgeable, and impactful specialist.
