Why I Want to be a Filmmaker

As a passionate and creative individual, I am thrilled to submit my application to Emerson College. I have always been fascinated with the art of storytelling and its ability to evoke emotions and create connections between people. It was with this love for visual storytelling that I decided to pursue a career in filmmaking, and I believe that Emerson College’s focus on the arts and communication make it the perfect place for me to continue my academic journey.

Emerson College offers a wide range of programs in the arts and communication, but it is the Department of Visual and Media Arts that truly stands out to me. As someone who has always been interested in exploring and pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling, the department’s focus on film and media production, as well as film studies, is the ideal place for me to pursue my passion.

What inspired me to become a filmmaker was the ability of movies to transport audiences to different worlds, cultures, and experiences. It was watching classic films like “Casablanca” and “The Godfather” that instilled in me a love for storytelling and the magic of cinema. I was drawn to the art of film not only because of its entertainment value but also because of its power to inspire and inform, to highlight social issues, and to spark conversations and meaningful change.

I have always been fascinated with the technical aspects of filmmaking, from lighting and sound to editing and visual effects. Additionally, I have a keen eye for visual storytelling and I believe that my creativity, coupled with a strong work ethic, would enable me to produce compelling films that would engage and impact audiences. Emerson College’s faculty members, who are established professionals in the film industry, are a valuable asset to the program. I am particularly drawn to the prospect of being taught by individuals who have worked on films that have inspired me and whose skills and expertise are well-respected in the industry.

In addition to the curriculum, I am excited to get involved in the numerous student organizations at Emerson College. I believe that joining the student film club and participating in the college’s film festivals and events would provide me with valuable opportunities to develop my craft, collaborate with other like-minded individuals, and network with industry professionals. I am also eager to apply for the various scholarships and financial aid programs that Emerson College offers. As someone who is deeply committed to my education and career aspirations, I am dedicated to finding the necessary funding to make my dreams a reality.
